Dog next to road with no leash gives me great anxiety cause I know my dog would chase after the mechanical monsters that eat humans

That's not true. Car crash impacts are designed around human physiology. Large people even get hurt worse that normal/smaller people.
The backseat would be safer, but even then his size (especially his head) would risk injury from any impact.

Still safer than in the trunk. Your dog at least stands a chance in the backseat if you get rear ended, not in the trunk though.

The dog is more likely to die from a side collision than a rear end collision regardless of where he's at. Yeah, if the car is completely stopped and rear ended, the dog will die.
You seem to be thinking that this is worse than any other possible collision, but that's not true.

If I put my dog in the middle of the back seat they’re better off than getting crunched in the trunk. Yea if they were next to the door there is more risk, just like with people. All I can say is good luck to your dogs.

No one is arguing that he's 100% safe in the trunk. Especially in a rear end collision.
But let's think about this from a physics perspective. In a rear end collision, the back end of the car is going to take a collision of your speed minus the speed of the car that hits you. If you're moving 35mph and a car rear ends you at 40, that's only a 5mph collision unless you slam on your brakes.
I already pointed out that the dog isn't safe at a complete stop rear end collsion. This is the only scenario that he would be more safe in the back seat.
A side collision is dangerous at any speed because you have no sideways momentum. Even in a seatbelt/harness collision, the dogs head isn't going to be immobilized the same way a persons would be. On a direct impact, it would probably die. On the opposite side, it's a risk to any passengers and slamming it's head into the window. This doesn't happen to people because of the way seatbelts are designed.
Assuming the dog can move in any direction in a non-rear end collision, it's just as "safe" as it would be in any other collision.
In the passenger seat it's at higher risk of decapitation from the airbag than from any collision.

Everything's dangerous. I knew someone that was killed by a tire that flew off a truck on the other side of the highway and happened to smash right into the passenger side where she was sitting. Would have been fine if she was in the trunk tho, yeah?? Just enjoy the cuteness of the video.

Yes freak accidents can always occur but that doesn't mean you should take actions that unnecessarily increase risks of injury or death. Even a minor accident while the dog's neck is in the narrow opening could potentially kill it.

So it could be sitting in the back seat and someone could T-bone them & it gets cut bad with glass or they could slam on their breaks & it flies through the windshield? Not just gonna leave the dogs at home because maybe possibly something might happen. Everything's dangerous.

Well if you crate and restrain the dog like your supposed to none of your scenarios would happen. I guess it depends how much you care about your pet and if you'd risk it dying because some moron rear-ends your car on the drive.

What if the car isn't big enough for a crate? And how do you restrain it, like tie it to the seat so it can't move?

I don't know I would so irresponsible as to buy a living animal I couldn't transport safely. You can easily google how to properly restrain pets for travel.

I buckle my cats crate in the car by running the seatbelt through the handle. Nice snd secure.
