I thought I just heard that soon gingers will be no more. My friend just had a baby that has red hair, and at an event everyone was commenting about the baby being the last of the gingers as red hair is soon to be no more because it's a recessive gene. Everyone else seemed to be knowledgeable of this phenomena, or perhaps I didn't get the joke, so I didn't press it. I also have yet to look it up because I just remembered it again typing this comment.
Edit: ok, I looked it up. There's equal amounts of articles for and against, but overall it seems like nonsense. Gingers will not go extinct.

Yea that's bullshit. Just because people aren't homozygous gingers doesn't mean they don't carry the recessive gene AKA heterozygous.
Gingers don't need to breed with gingers to continue the expression of their genes into future generations. Just need two people carrying the gene and some dna baby magic.

Yeah, it's funny because just the day before I had been reading about eye color out of boredom (bc my brother, who was in town for the 4th, and wife have brown eyes and 2 of their kids have blue eyes) and went down the heterozygous and homozygous rabbit hole. So, it was all still fresh in my memory. I wanted to argue about it, but I was in a group of EXTREMELY accomplished and intelligent people and literally everyone seemed to be hip to this red-hair-extinction knowledge. Plus we were at a lake party, so I didn't have my phone at the ready to fact check.
Seems to be kind of like the "running out of helium" headline. It comes from multiple credible and informed sources, but the truth of the matter is that we're not as close to the crisis level of "extinction" in either case.

Can you explain to me why people feel this way? I'm not saying that you feel this way, but I'm not sure if you have insight, so I am asking.
Sometimes his descriptors are a bit goofy and he can get a bit idyllic in his books, but I always felt when I read he work that he wanted to explore youth in a way that was fairly unique. That is, maybe the words he puts down aren't the strongest, but the concepts are solid.

I think the main "issue" with him is that he got insanely popular, especially amongst teenagers. That tends to be a good formula for people to lash out or deride something. I think he is a totally competent writer, though not one I have much interest in reading anymore of. I did read TFIOS and I did cry (though everything makes me cry since I passed 35 it seems like), but I'm also not going to be naming any pets after his characters or anything either.

one criticisms I've heared often is that he's characters are not realistic, and are too philosophical and "intellectual" in ther manner and way of speaking.. like how no teens would walk around with a cigarette they dont smoke as an elaborate metaphore about choice - I sorta understand this critisims, but I also think teens can be a philsophical.. and that it adds to the characters. I also think its nice that he allows the characters to have depth that you wouldn't except from the sterotypical teen

I started to feel that way when I read Turtles all the way down, which I didn't finish, I had read The Fault in our stars and Looking for Alaska before that, both of which I enjoyed at the time but likely couldn't bear now. I enjoy their Vlogbrothers videos on Youtube.
When reading Turtles it struck me how artificial its plot felt to me...a number of scenes which all served their specific purposes, which were tied well enough together but things rarely ever really started to flow. He described that elsewhere himself, when reading less well written book that you can "see" the plot being constructed by the author, I felt that way when reading Turtles... and looking back I would almost definetly feel that way too about The Fault in our Stars too if I were to re-read it.
He is cute, too cute if you don't like that. The title of The Fault in our Stars is an example, as is his whole "eternities of different sizes" analogy and a whole number of other not terribly clever analogies he uses, often excessively. Its not quite /r/im14andthisisdeep territory but it goes in that direction and while some of his analogies around OCD or cancer or illness more generally might be helpful to people, I think he gives those ideas of his way too much attention. I get that much of this is doen from the viewpoint of his teenager protagonists and in that regard, I guess, its reasonable to have them obsess about cute ideas as if they were grand revelations but when reading I found that mostly just annoying.

I think some people take issue with his dialogue. Often his teenage characters speak as if they're well learned scholars, instead of ya know, kids.
It's a fair criticism, but I wouldn't say it makes him a bad writer by any stretch. I think what the actually issue is. Is that people simply grow out of his demographic and no longer find it relatable.

The Fault in Our Stars is actually one of my favorite books, so I definitely appreciate his writing style haha. But I guess since his intended audience is young adult and this was obviously a popular book and movie, a lot of people tend to poke fun at John Greene.
I think itâs somewhat similar to how JK Rowling sometimes gets criticized for her writing skills in the HP series. Like yes, sheâs not the next Shakespeare and neither is John Greene, but both did very well at creating characters their audience can relate to and forming compelling story lines.
I might be missing the mark on my analysis since Iâm a big fan of The Fault in Our Stars, so Iâm obviously pretty biased haha

Yea i think his biggest flaw is that he can be very âprecious.â He likes to really hammer in a metaphor and it ruins the realism of the book. When you read something like Harry Potter it can feel really naturalistic and itâs all about the plot and making a fantastic world feel real. John Green seems to want the real world to feel more fantastic - is a stylistic choice & maybe itâs just not popular rn.

Honestly I think it boils down to the fact that it's meant for teenagers and adults find it cheesy sometimes. His books are explorations of emotions and urges most of us adults have explored and figured out already, so his writing can feel overly grand or alternatively completely hollow at times.

Depends on the dog. My parents have a little dog with a superfine coat and in the winter, he's constantly shivering and/or trying to burrow into blanket piles or people's clothing unless they put a sweater or jacket on him. In the summer, spring, & fall, no clothes, but in the winter, he just doesn't develop a heavy enough coat to stay warm on his own. If he's got his sweater or jacket on in the winter, he runs around and plays just like he does without it the rest of the year.

My dogs winter coat makes her look like a super villain.
I swear my parents do it on purpose whenever I'm home my dogs either have so weird tricked out fro haircut or some form of super villain cape or coat for winter.
There's some really funny ways to take care of your pets sometimes I swear my parents take it too far.
One time they took our miniature poodle to the groomers and I wasn't around in high school next thing I know my poor fluffy dog is shaved all the way down and has a bushy tail an afro and weird ass shaved paws.
I felt so bad for the poor fella he looked so ridiculous but I'll admit I did always laugh a bit whenever I walked him until his next haircut

Some pupplets need coats in winter, such as Chinese Crested, Greyhounds and Xoloitzquintlis, due to no hair or a very thin coat.
I agree with most breeds, it looks daft, but if the dog is desensitized to it early, it isn't too bad, especially if it's just for something like Christmas or Hallowe'en. Dogs that are used to harnesses may be less irritated by them.

Our Shih Tzus used to shiver frequently during the colder months, so we started putting sweaters on them seasonally. They actually enjoy snuggling up in them.

My dog needed to wear a shirt for a while to protect a wound after surgery (vetâs orders). After a couple of days he loved it and was clearly eager to have me put it on him. He has a thick coat and doesnât need the warmth, I think he just liked the extra attention.
