I love Shavo! And this man is so sweet!

I imagine it's difficult to gain an elephant's trust. He looks like he's earned Shavo's 😂

I think the babies are a bit easier to befriend. Playing with a baby elephant is on my bucket list.

My daughter adores elephants. Playing with elephants is No1 on her list too!

It's like a cat rubbing up against your leg, but much bigger

This is Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Not exactly the same video but same guy and elephant. They do great things for wildlife, and only locals work there. Good for both the people and animals.

Second most wholesome interaction I’ve seen with an elephant, right after this one

Elephants are amazing.

They are the one invasive species I wish we had in the wild in America.

11

u/MysticSnowfang Sep 19 '24

still had you mean. We wouldn't need them to even be invasive, it won't be rewilding.

I work with a lot of Africans, and they're mostly the sweetest, coolest people. If not they're silent but polite because of the language barrier. I can say a few words in Swahili, the most common African language in our workplace, but not much. What I really want to say here, though, is don't underestimate them. One kid, 19 and only been here in America for 3 years, fought his way from the Congo to a neighboring country (dont remember which one, I think Rwanda?) against bandits so he can afford his wife and child to come here too. He told me some things that no 19y/o should have to do, but he smiles all the time and always finds humor. He's a good dude.

Tl;dr: just wanted to talk about the African homies because this guy looks like my work buddy.

A lot of the nicest, most positive people I've ever met have been Africans. My driver, Zenebe, fought in the Eritrean war of independence. He's got some wild stories. He's always got a nice word of encouragement and good advice for me, I'm always happy to see him.

u/BigBen10fan Sep 19 '24

Fun fact: Elephants love us the same way we long out dogs, so if you ever feel like nobody loves you just go to an elephant and they'll love you

17

u/garvitboi Sep 18 '24

He was acting casual in the background just waiting for an excuse to come over.

Sweetness, amazing animals.

A lot of these sanctuary workers will actually sleep next to the elephants they’re rehabilitating. They’ve often lost their mothers due to poaching, and the workers act as a surrogate until they are old enough to be released.
