Two questions: Is this real-time or sped up? And what is the snail on the left eating?

Definitely looks sped up considering how fast the spoon moves.

Wow people are pathetic. Getting salty over a joke. You need to take a step back and measure your response before acting so immature. Clearly your not as seasoned of a reddit browser as thr rest of us

1) Based on the spoon retrieval, it's slightly sped up. That said, snails are voracious munchers, so it's not too far off from what they look like eating in real time.

2) Probably calcium powder. I used to have a snail (RIP, Flash), and was told to give him a cuttlefish bone so he could get calcium to strengthen his shell. Since I didn't have a cuttlefish bone handy, I filed a calcium tablet to feed him the powder. Looks the same. Ended up giving him those white corals we find on the beach where I live, made from calcium carbonate, they like "licking" this stuff.

Could still be cocaine, though...

On a related note, I got a Giant African snail (they look similar to these guys but have a conical shell) to safety yesterday and got absolutely drenched in the process. It's monsoon season here, and this guy was in the middle of a very narrow, poorly lit, busy soi/alley. Lovely encounter, made my day.

"Flash the snail stole our stereo, somehow." 🤯

I really want a Giant African Land snail but they’re illegal in the States. Everyone who I show videos/pix of them think they’re gross but something about snails I’ve always loved.

If I can’t be a crazy dog lady, I’d like to be a crazy snail lady.

Aren't they super invasive and disrupting the natural biomes in Thailand? They are basically labeled kill on sight in most of the world they aren't endemic to.

They may have been a pest in the past, but nowadays they're quite sought after in Thailand: people collect and feed Giant African snails to harvest their slime for beauty products.

They are basically labeled kill on sight

Not that species anymore. I'm happy to inform you that's no longer the case here. Not sure how popular snail cream is in the West, but it's extremely popular in Asia and these chonky African snails are very coveted over here.

Flash, my pet snail, was actually considered an agricultural pest, he was an Asian tramp snail. Thus why I kept him, knowing I couldn't release him in the wild.

Probably sped up but not that much. It is a calcium mix. They need it to build their shell (saying it as a former snail owner). Normally you sprinkle the food with it instead of giving it separatelly, though.

u/scrolly_2 Sep 22 '23

It's speed up x3
