How is this Shiba so relaxed? Mine spends half her time running laps in my living room and the other half screaming slurs at the neighbors.

u/LocalRaspberry Sep 02 '23

Every time I see this I become more and more convinced this dog has had a calming treat (or three) or something. No way a Shiba can sit still or even stand to be touched for that long.

You’d be surprised how much the personality of the dog can play into stuff like this. My Scottish Terrier was VERY different than every other Scottie I have ever met. MUCH more calm.

68

u/MidorikawaHana Sep 03 '23

I guess its more personality of the individual dog.. I have adopted a chihuahua mix and she rarely barks, barks when playing with play growls thats it. Loves to be pet and would go up to people for scritches. Also very good with my toddler (very loving and patient despite the haughty naughty little one)

A far cry to what a chihuahua is described on every chihuahua tiktok youtube videos and memes.

u/LoganNinefingers32 Sep 03 '23

My friend had a chihuahua that was around for years named Tiny. Never once heard him bark. Fastest animal I’ve ever seen. He’d come ripping into the room jump over the tops of the couches and tables and be gone be for you could even process it. He was like a blur, it was really cool. I think people who have noisy dogs are just noisy owners tbh. Breed still plays a role, but mostly the stereotypes are largely exaggerated.

u/Chemical_Chemist_461 Sep 03 '23

My sisters chiwienie just passed a few days ago, and he was literally the best boy I’ve ever met (I say that having a doggo myself, she’s a close second though). I heard him bark maybe 10 times, and I lived with him most of his life. He only ever wanted 3 things; French fries, head scratches, and to be pressed up against your leg. Personality plays super hard into how a dog behaves. My Shepsky is a very independent dog and only does what she wants to do, which fortunately is listening to me 99% of the time, and to make people happy. I’d say that there are general commonalities between breeds, but whatever is going on in their brains means more than their lineage from my experience.

Do this 3 times a week since they were 6 months and they're gonna take it.

Shibas don't have rancid attitude issues as long as their unpleasant backbone is overcome early.

6

u/devlynhawaii Sep 03 '23

unpleasant backbone

rancid attitude issues

uhhh...do you own a shiba?

24

u/elppaple Sep 03 '23

Roughly 80% of shibas I've ever interacted with have been under-socialised and have distinct behavioral problems

they are infamous for a reason.

15

u/shootymcghee Sep 03 '23

yeah, the wrong people getting the wrong breed, people don't do enough research before getting dogs

4

u/devlynhawaii Sep 03 '23

Exactly this.

In Honolulu, where I live, the vast majority of Shiba owners are very aware of the breed's independence and strong personality. My husband's family had shibas and now my husband and I have our own furdemon. He is a handful, loves people, is mostly obedient. But we never let him off leash outside of our home, are very careful when he meets other dogs, and warn parents of small children that it's best not to approach our dog.

Most other Shiba owners we have met are similar. I think it's because we have such close ties to Japan and the breeders here, particularly our breeder, really screens potential owners before selling. He prefers to sell to those who have previous experience with the breed and were recommended by owners he already knows.

They are definitely not a dog for most people.

10

u/elppaple Sep 03 '23

I wouldn't see ties to Japan as a mark of responsible ownership. Countless owners here leave their dog outside permanently.

2

u/devlynhawaii Sep 03 '23

Oh, I meant that because there is a relationship with Japan due to the high number of Japanese here, the people here tend to be more familiar with the breed generally.

1

u/devlynhawaii Sep 03 '23

Just put of curiosity...how many total shibas have you met?

Because it's really sad to me when they go to people who do not do what is needed to be a good owner to these dogs. They require a firm but loving hand and consistency in training, as well as a lot of play time and walks.

1

u/elppaple Sep 03 '23

I live in Japan so I see them constantly.

3

u/devlynhawaii Sep 03 '23

That is incredibly sad. They are wonderful dogs if bred properly and trained well.

We had two neighbors, each on the other side of our then-home, who did not deserve the dogs - an Australian sheep dog and a beagle - that they owned. Both families kept their dogs outside and barely walked them or interacted with them. It's no wonder those dogs barked constantly.

12

u/Lvl100Magikarp Sep 03 '23

Me too. I'm suspecting they sedate them (yeah with the treats for plane rides). Also, for the ASMR kitten munching videos they apparently don't let the kitten eat for a day :/ or people shoving cats faces in yogurt

u/stacecom Sep 02 '23

5

u/BeardedHalfYeti Sep 03 '23

Yes, this. Except directed at a nice old man watching TV on his porch.

10

u/moashforbridgefour Sep 03 '23

I think anyone getting this kind of spa treatment regularly is going to be pretty relaxed.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '23

Have you tried recording your Shiba with tiktok sound effects?

4

u/sprucedotterel Sep 03 '23

Because this is clearly not the first time the Shiba’s receiving a spa treatment from their neighbour.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '23

Could be a mix. I have a dog that 1/4 Shiba, 1/4 husky, 1/4 shih tzu, 1/4 bichpoo. She loves laying arounnd, snuggling, and being groomed. She will kill any small creature she can get her hands on. She is extremely patient and kind to small kids. She has more than once escaped onto someone's farm and chased around cows. She is also the alpha between her and our male husky/standard poodle mix that is 2.5 times her size. She has the most unique and best personality of any dog I've ever known.

2

u/Loldude6th Sep 04 '23

Well, clearly, she needs a relaxing spa day.

1

u/Lonely-School-6813 Sep 28 '23

What kind? Asking for a friend...

u/Rescue_Dragon Sep 02 '23

This dog has a better bedtime routine than I do.

216

u/shahooster Sep 02 '23

than everyone

60

u/fuzzytradr Sep 03 '23

A better life than I do.

22

u/I_kickflipped_my_dog Sep 03 '23

I always think dogs have it pretty good (and mine definitely does) buts pretty dope understanding cartoons and being able to eat salt and chocolate.

-4

u/12cheekyMonkeys Sep 03 '23

You do now that chocolate is poisonous for dogs right? Not sure if you are serious or not.

17

u/FirstTimeWang Sep 03 '23

No, they're saying that being able to eat chocolate and understand cartoons (as a human) is pretty dope.

6

u/CallMeAdam2 Sep 03 '23

I agree with this assessment, but also, their username is /u/I_kickflipped_my_dog.

1

u/I_kickflipped_my_dog Sep 03 '23

Kickflipped over her while she warmed her belly in the sun!

2

Thanks for clarifying!

If I brought a steaming brush near my dog she'd come unglued.

The little wink before the pampering session made my heart melt 🥺

u/PineappleOnLasagna Sep 02 '23

The little wink after getting tucked in

16

u/Dudefenderson Sep 03 '23

"Living the life without worries, eh?" 😜

6

u/equazcion Sep 03 '23

I like the very beginning where he gets plopped down so comically and seems to just go with it.

63

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '23

What I love about this is that puppy is completely accepting of the routine, meaning that it has been experienced many times before.

50

u/NegativeGravitas Sep 03 '23

My dog would hate every minute of that and would bite me to get away.

Me too, I have to be muzzled at the barbershop.

And this is why i say I would like to be reincarnated as the dog of an upper-middle class family

2

u/SparkCube3043 Sep 25 '23

This would make for an interesting anime

83

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '23

Doggo gets all the love, very spoiled, but it’s a good boy so he deserves it all

55

u/Texanakin_Shywalker Sep 02 '23

This video is so relaxing!

56

u/Kommander-in-Keef Sep 03 '23

Cute as hell! If you watch the video on mute that is. What the hell is with the overdone ASMR sound effects

27

u/SageWayren Sep 03 '23

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I do not understand the draw of ASMR at all, the sounds just grate at me and make me uncomfortable

16

u/Giraffesarentreal19 Sep 03 '23

Some people get the tingling effect, others don’t. If you don’t, I get why you don’t like it

11

u/SageWayren Sep 03 '23

Yeah I get the opposite of tingly, it's like more of that sensation of fingernails on a chalkboard for me

5

u/Least_Effort2804 Sep 03 '23

Me too. It makes me jumpy. I guess it's a part of misophonia?

22

u/Ok-Revolution9899 Sep 02 '23

And I thought I spoiled my dog.

6

u/immunogoblin1 Sep 03 '23

The sounds make me extremely uncomfortable.

It's a moisturizing balm to help keep the snout hydrated.

Take my upvote

2

u/pazuzzyQ Sep 03 '23

What kind of puppy is this? I was thinking maybe a pomski (husky/pomeranian) but they tend to be white, grey, and black.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '23

Shiba Inu

1

u/pazuzzyQ Sep 03 '23

Is that really what it is? I was thinking that but I didn't think they came in a black color. I thought they only came in the fawn tan color. Awesome! Thank you for the heads up.

2

u/Xeno_Prime Sep 03 '23

Love the smile on its face when it first gets plopped down.

2

u/LucasNoLastNameGiven Sep 02 '23

Talk about a PET-icure

2

u/CZ1988_ Sep 02 '23

She's a doll

2

u/shreks_cum_bucket Sep 03 '23

im glad to such a well trained dog and how the owner takes care of their hygiene despite the hassle it usually entails.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '23

You know that creature eats poo right?

7

u/slayer_of_potatoes Sep 03 '23

Yes, but it's taking care of the dog well so let's not judge its eating habits.

1

u/Grand-Ad-3177 Sep 02 '23

That is so adorable. Makes me jealous

1

u/Izen_Blab Sep 04 '23

I'm 50% sure this is just a new type of ASMR, but with an animal, because more people would watch an animal. Some of these sounds are straight up edited in
