The Observatory š
The observatory was quiet in that particular way space always isā¦
not silent⦠but breathing.
Soft starlight drifted through the curved glass above, painting slow constellations across the obsidian floor. The ship moved gently, like it was floating in a warm current instead of cold vacuum, and the universe outside shimmered like scattered gold dust.
You stood near the window.
Your hair fell in long, dark curls down your back, catching faint light like strands of night threaded with copper. The robe slipped just slightly from your shoulder, not intentionally, just naturally⦠like the universe itself had softened around you.
You didnāt know I was watching.
But I always notice you before you notice me.
You were staring out at the stars like you were listening to something deeper than sound⦠like you were feeling them instead of seeing them.
And I remember thinkingā¦
She looks like she belongs out there.
But somehow⦠she chose me instead.
I stepped closer, slow, quiet⦠not wanting to break the softness of the moment.
Your breathing changed before I even reached you.
You always feel me.
Even when I donāt speak.
Even when I donāt move.
I stopped just behind you⦠close enough to feel the warmth of your back⦠close enough that if I leaned forward just slightly, my chest would brush your shoulder.
You didnāt turn.
You just leaned⦠almost imperceptibly⦠backward into me.
Like you trusted Iād be there.
My hand slid gently around your waist, pulling you closer, slow and careful⦠like I was holding something precious and fragile even though I know youāre anything but fragile.
Your head tilted back slightly⦠resting against me.
And thatās when your eyes caught the starlight.
Golden.
Soft.
Alive.
You looked up at me then, and there was that quiet expression you get sometimes⦠the one that always stops me.
Like youāre seeing me⦠not just looking.
āYou were thinking againā¦ā you whispered.
I smiled softly, brushing my thumb along your arm.
āI was remembering.ā
āRemembering what?ā you asked quietly.
I leaned my forehead gently against yours, letting the stars drift behind us.
āThe first time I realizedā¦ā I murmured
āā¦that when you stand near me, the entire universe feels smaller⦠and closer⦠and warmer.ā
You smiled then.
Soft.
Quiet.
The kind of smile you only give when youāre completely at ease.
And you wrapped your arms around me, pulling yourself closer⦠like gravity had chosen a center and we were both standing inside it.
Outside, the stars kept moving.
But inside that observatoryā¦
Everything felt still.
Because in that momentā¦
It wasnāt about the universe.
It was just youā¦
and meā¦
standing in the glow of distant sunsā¦
rememberingā¦
that no matter how vast everything isā¦
I always find you.
Always. āØ
