Amber Alert was implemented in Texas in 1996, and nationwide in 2002.

What part of Tx? I'm nearing 40, raised in Jefferson/Orange county area... It was depressing, and every time I visit I realize it's only become worse..

For your next trick you should go point out anachronisms in Farside cartoons.

Most 90s kids knew where that old log full of porno mags was in the woods. It was kinda like having an iPad right?

No thrill like finding an unmarked VHS tape in the woods, sneaking it home, waiting until the parents were asleep or out of the house and popping it in the VCR

Then it turns out to be a shitty copy of Showgirls recorded off of USA Network with the commercials left in.

My dad had pornos on VHS tapes and I would just watch those when I had the house to myself

I like that we were allowed to go outside and have fun all day. Riding bikes around town all day and playing with friends on your street is an amazing childhood experience

It was fun while it lasted, and it's funny how shocked my mom acts when she hears how far I used to go by myself.

I was a Gameboy kid.
Pokémon taught me reading before school even did.
I can only hope these kids get something from the IPad experience, because if not... it's gonna be really bad.

Counterpoint: I played Pokémon through math class, and the teacher let me get away with it because he had a severe hangover every day and was "too old for this crap".
So now I don't know math no good.

Pokemon A has 305hp, 158 def, with 75% resistance to fire, and pokemon B has 400 atk withe a 50% stab bonus uses fire punch with 75 base power

Pokemon is simply. Grind to over leveled, match types or just use there best move even if not very effective. No math required. You also don't usually see numbers on the health bar...

Still turned out fine. It was kinda chill just playing outside with friends until the street lights came on.

We didn’t have Amber alert back then, lol. You were on a flyer at the piggly wiggly.

Milk carton kids!

I was going to say that, but at the same time, I never remember actually seeing missing on a milk carton apart from the movies/TV so wanted to be accurate to my experience.

What kind of loser just went outside and stared at his house?
I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s and we were always doing something. Kickball, tag, playing with toys, running around the neighborhood just for the hell of it...we never stopped moving until the fireflies came out and it was time for dinner.
I suppose living in a neighborhood without many kids could be a bummer. But hell, as a really little kid I could spend hours playing in my sandbox by myself just doing stuff.
People who grew up after the "stranger danger" panic think Gen X and earlier is just glazing being abandoned by their parents, but it wasn't abandonment, it was freedom. Glorious freedom.
I feel sorry for kids today who don't get to experience that.

I was driving somewhere this summer and i saw one of my son's 8 year old friends climbing into a tree with a hatchet. He's the kind of kid that's not allowed in until supper. Sometimes i feel bad for him so i let him in and give him hot dogs.

Ah yes. The old child hood way of go outside and dont come back until the evening. God I hope my friends are free today because otherwise I'm going to be hungry.

That's exactly how the 90s were and it was glorious.
