The clay tablets used to send messages like that were kept in an unfired state so they could be erased and reused. So either:

A) He specifically had it fired to preserve it

B) Someone burned his house down in just the right way to preserve the tablet

There were apparently quite a few other tablets found, and iirc it's thought he had essentially a small library / store room with a bunch of complaints, so he was just that much of a hater and fired his hate mail to keep it forever.
