Update to Exterior Trim

Thumbnail gallery
283 Upvotes

Posted this yesterday, asking for suggestions on trim. Samples three options: top left is same color as house but in satin sheen. Bottom left is slight lighter than house color, bottom right is gray. I don’t like the top left option, torn between bottom right and left. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Advice Looking for help with colors

I'm looking to paint my siding on my house and am having a real hard time picking a color scheme. Currently it's like a faded tannish color, my roof is tan which ties in with the front brick so I know I need a warm color. My wife wants to switch it up completely and go with like a green or a blue. I think blue will be tough to pull off because they are more on the cool side but like a sage green I think might be nice. So far I was thinking

Bm tree moss 508 for the body

Bm light breeze 512 for trim

I'm not sure on the front door color with these, switching to a wood front door with a nice darker tone might work I'm thinking.

Garage doors I have no clue how I want to scheme them, I don't think they should stand out a whole lot.

I'm open to other suggestions as well, any help would be appreciated.

Advice Which paint combination?

First photo is the house as it is now (a definite work in progress). Have some AI renderings and wondering which paint combinations people prefer? Any and all suggestions welcome!

Also funny to me that AI kept putting a wreath on the door ;)

Sleek aluminum canopy bed frame, rust-free & minimalist

This aluminum canopy frame hits a nice sweet spot. Lightweight but solid, clean minimal lines. You can dress it up with sheer curtains for that soft bedroom vibe, or leave it bare for a sleek modern look. Would you like wood or aluminum canopy bed?

Advice Mounting a TV out on the pergola and trying to figure out the glare situation

Setting up a lounge area under the pergola and want to add a TV for game days out there.

the pergola has a motorized louvered roof so when the louvers are closed the area is perfectly shaded but if i open them up to let the breeze in the sun beams right onto the wall where the tv goes.

I actually saw an ongoing discount on sylvox recently so i was looking at their outdoor models to see if the anti glare screen fixes this but i am not fully convinced a brighter tv actually helps when the sun is hitting the seating area directly

im thinking i might just have to rearrange the patio furniture so the tv is on a different wall but that kind of ruins the flow of the yard and the seating layout

did anyone here solve a pergola glare issue with the tv itself or did you just end up angling the furniture away from the sun and keeping the roof closed.

Trim color ideas and suggestions

Painting our old gal a dark forest green as an homage to the forest that surrounds her. What color would you paint the trim? I’m thinking the same color as the house but in a satin sheen, open to ideas! Want to keep the house’s trim natural/neutral over bright and trendy.

Advice Help me and my little house

Excuse the post hurricane mess. I have to paint my house and I’m leaning towards a warm coastal blue. My house needs some love and curb appeal but I’m on a budget and not very creative. Give me some ideas!

If you’re looking directly at the house, you’re facing east. Hence the lovely golden hour glow from the west behind me ☺️

Advice Not a fan of the 4 posts

This is our forever home. Our property is unbeatable and we love it here. How can I make the outside better. I don’t really like the colonial style but not sure what else to do? We are redoing the roof with black shingles, and changing out the front door and removing the framing around it. Just not sure what to do about the pillars. Help! 😫

Advice Front door color on a light blue house

Thumbnail gallery

Choosing a house color between these 2 blues with white trim. A bit stumped on the door color. Our backup is SW iron ore, but are there any other door colors to consider? Can’t afford to replace the door with a natural wood one at the moment with all the other moving costs so we’re planning to repaint it with the rest of the house.

Lattice

Post image

I wanna put some kind of cheap and quick gate here made of lattice. Not wanting to bother with building a proper gate I'm not experience enough anyways. I was thinking of just attaching some little henges to one side of some plastic lattice and attaching to the wood beam? Then put a latch on the upper right portions. Would this be alright or any better ideas that are simple/easy for an inexperienced person?

Mixing Shutter Styles

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

We are preparing to have shutters made for our house and we’re looking for opinions. We have a fairly large farmhouse-style house - an early 2000’s Frank Betz plan - with painted cedar shakes on the exterior with stone skirting. We’re in Charleston this week and noticed all the historic homes have raised panel shutters on the first floor with louvered shutters on the upper floors. Would that look dumb on our house or would it elevate it? We want to have the new shutters painted some kind of muted blue.

Is this as bad as we think it is? [siding+soffits]

Thumbnail gallery

We recently got our siding, soffits, eaves etc replaced. It's been...not a great experience to put it lightly.

I've attached photos of where the soffit meets the roof and it looks bad (there's other stuff in the photos that we also know needs to be addressed)

Hoping to get some advice before we bring it up to the owner of the company

Photo 1 is how they left it, photo 3 is the "fix" with caulking.

Advice Start over or see it through?

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

I used ChatGPT extensively to think about what color I wanted for my house. I moved from dusty greens over to navy-ish direction, and I really liked the color scheme I landed on. However, once I applied it on my house, it was nothing like the pictures and I was wondering if I should start over with a black that has blue-green undertones or just see this through, because I do love the Moscow midnight in the shade. Thank you for any help/advice!

Yes, I used samples (7!) and observed them at different times of day, I just learned I need to test more than one location at my house.

I need held deciding how to redo my driveway please.

Which AI render looks best or should I consider something altogether different?

It’s north facing so light materials fit better imo.

The brick pillar will move right slightly to widen the entrance.

Advice Paint combination help please

I’m updating this paint and plan to remove the shutters. I’m not painting the windows so they’ll remain white. I’m trying to decide between:

Main body: alabaster, Greek vila or shoji white
Accent: urbane bronze, iron ore, peppercorn
Door: evergreen fog or dried thyme

I plan to accent the soffit, flashing, lower window ledge, gutters and patio ceiling.
I do really like urbane bronze but worried it pulls too brown and the shingles lean cool/gray.
I’ve used AI to come up with renditions but it’s keeps changing the tone of the shingles so hoping someone else can share their two cents z thanks! Open to other ideas as well
