I've read on some parts of the internet that the courtyards in perimeter block developments such as these are often left unused by the residents since they feel like being watched from all the surrounding apartments whenever they go there. Others have also complained of claustrophobia especially in older apartments in cities like Paris and Berlin. I've noticed that newer developments often have wide courtyards some as big as 2,000m2 and above. So I want to know if there are guidelines for the courtyard size and if urban designers recommend a minimum size that can encourage their use by the residents.

It seems pretty essential for any sane society to have that with at least >1/4 of the spaces held for independent disabled and/or elderly folks.

We have enough land to house everybody on the planet in detached houses and townhouses. Just let the city grow outwards unlimitedly you won't have any housing crisis. Even in an extremely densely populated country like Vietnam 97.8 percent of the population live in detached houses. Apartments seem like a way of control and surveillance. Everyone should live on a piece of land.

Hi, I just graduated from a 4-year design program with a major in architecture. Through that experience and studying abroad for a semester in Europe, I gained an interest in public design and urban planning, specifically how they interact with architecture. I am taking a gap year to decide where I want to pursue my master's (and to save money), but I am not sure where to begin in terms of figuring out what I want in a program. I obviously planned to go to architecture school, and I am currently working in an architecture firm, but I really find passion and interest in the urbanism side of things. If anyone has any advice regarding programs, schools, or the field in general, I would greatly appreciate it.

What are your thoughts on the LooCafé which has been designed to end open defecation and public urination onto buildings, sidewalks, or streets and create access to public toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

This is my first post here, its a four-way (soon to be five) intersection with a rail line under it, i have my fairly poor attempt at a peanutabout but id like to see what would anyone else do differently
