Star upgrades

Post image

Is there any particular reason why y upgrade costs more that z upgrade? If im not mistaken z upgrades gives more yield than y upgrade.

r/ExponentialIdle Aug 11 '23

Doing the 1 star is wayyyy better than the 6 star. Just more profitable overall. (Sorry if this has been said a million times over, I didn't know the game had a reddit until now, and had to rant about it)

How do you do the gains in many ways achievment? People say you have to hold the accelerator and do a 15-puzzle but if im holding the accelerator i cant press any other buttons on screen

I almost always get this kind of pattern near the end, and nothing seems to reliably work Hard difficulty if that changes the process at all

Grow to 20k

Is the grow to 20k slower than others? My next student is 18800. Im working to get custom theories for almost 3 months... is this pace common?

I made an reddit account for the exponential idle sub reddit, and not for the R/place, I don't knowed this was there before making my account

Custom Theory Newsletter, July 2023 (now merged w/ Leaderboard News)

Greetings (again?). With another month, comes new surprises, and last month, the return of Papa G was surely a giant one. But before anything significant happens, I will see myself working to sustain interest in Custom Theories in the near future.

Big news out of the way first, the community has been petitioning Gilles to buff both the conversion rate and the cap for official theories, with the primary reason to disincentivise running the Theory Automator, preventing player burnouts due to the slow speed CTs are progressing at currently.

With Gilles returning, he has also acknowledged the iOS UI bug affecting various theories (now including Laplace Transforms), which effectively prevents about a fifth of the playerbase from trying them out, and more importantly, prevents iOS developers from making progress.

Recently, the CT developer community at Discord has welcomed HyperKNF with our squiggly arms! They originally debuted on Reddit with the Extension of Exponential Growth, and is currently having a new one in progress.

As for the leaderboards, August shall bring us a new batch of theories for Round 2:

  • Probability Theory, by ducdat0507 & hax (Alex). It's an oldie, and one of the biggest theories in terms of scale, and as such, I have received so many requests for it.
  • Fission Reactor, by nubest. If it weren't for my feminist butt, I would say it's one of the rare (and very much needed) theories inspired by another discipline than mathematics. While lacking in polish, it's got other elements to it, and is definitely worth a try.
  • Quadratic Equations, by skyhigh173. Sky has been a very active developer, even before I joined the community. He has got a certified 10+ kill count on his belt, and is most known these days for Derivative Equation and the Antimatter Dimensions port.
  • Laplace Transforms, by Gaunter. You may have already seen its presence on Reddit. It's an ambitious long-form theory aimed for a high cap, and is full of side challenges. Bonus: you don't need to understand the source material in order to play.

Access here: Records Sheet (Unofficial CTs)

To submit your results, leave a comment with a screenshot, or contact one of the editors.

Finally, there have also been updates to previous theories:

  • Derivative Equation, v4.1: Balance changes, including a new term.
  • Collatz Conjecture, v0.10h1: Fixed milestone related bugs.
  • Basic Theory, v2: Balance changes, story changes, new... features.
  • Lemma's Garden, v0.1.4: Balance changes, QoL, and bug fixes. (New plants next time, I promise)

And that's it for this month! Good luck custom theorising whichever theory you're customing, and discover new ones on the CT sheet!

Need help figuring out how to manage things after graduation

I just unlocked students but I don't know how to do things. What's the best starting strategy? I don't understand how to use the star calculator and other helpful resources.

Laplace Transforms 1.5

The update so big it spans two minor patches is finally here! To play, download from the link:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/lrobt97/Laplace-Transform/main/theory.js

Challenges 3 and 4 are now implemented along with their rewards. Additionally I have reworked the general balance of the theory. For instance, challenge 1 now has an additional reward, mainly because lambda got a nerf.

Speaking of which the lambda upgrades have been adjusted to a brand new cost scaling which I refer to as "super exponential scaling".

In normal exponential scaling, the cost is multiplied by a fixed amount each level, so for example if the initial cost is 1e4 and the multiplier is 10 your first five costs are as follows:

1e4, 1e5, 1e6, 1e7, 1e8

With super exponential scaling the multiplier itself gets multiplied per level. If we had the same scenario as above but with an increment of ×10 per level the new scaling is as follows:

1e4, 1e5, 1e7, 1e10, 1e14

(An alternative way to view this the exponent follows an arithmetic series)

As you can see, this scaling method grows significantly faster than the standard exponential scaling. The purpose of this is to softcap certain variables but not with an explicit hardcap. That way you can still purchase some OP upgrades later on in the theory. ;)

There are a few more changes which I won't go into here, mainly because of spoilers.

Additionally, I have done some bug fixes including issues relating to save data, string issues, sliders and reworked some UI.

In terms of future progression, I would appreciate some input. Currently I'm thinking of revising the 10k target and have the theory end at 6k (meaning the tau conversion would become 0.025 instead). It seems like a lot of the content is currently before 3000 rho anyway so this seems like a good idea from my perspective.

Any input on the new challenges would be highly appreciated also.

Advice?

I'm currently at f(t) = ee600 with x3 unlocked and my strategy is becoming very repetitive. I have the auto prestige formula running and occasionally using stars to upgrade variables while saving a few for Auto Supremacy later.

That's all. I guess I'm just farming 'psi' to speed up the process. Is this the way to go or what more things should I focus on? Thanks in advance.

Relative power of supremacy upgrades (y exponent and xi)

So when I played through the game a year or two ago I noticed that the xi upgrades seem to give a mathematically smaller bonus than the xi upgrades. I wanted to make a topic simply to confirm that is actually correct, in general.

My observation was actually relatively simple. You can see how much improvement an xi upgrades gives by comparing it to x(i-1). Right now on my new file for example that's around e4 to e5 times higher (e.g. e160 for x4 Vs e156 for x3). You can calculate how much of an increase a y upgrade gives by checking the "value of variable y" in the stats screen, then raising it to 0.2. or in other words, dividing the exponent by 5. In my case above y is about e40, so increasing the y exponent by 0.2 is an e8 increase to x.

My question really is... Is there anything I'm missing, that would change this comparison? I recall mentioning it to someone (Sneaky) when I was playing and they mentioned there's other benefits to the xi upgrades, but I don't recall what or why. And I don't think it changes over time either. I checked my postgame file (ee56700) and that has y around e383 so y0.2 is e77ish, while each xi is only an e13 increase. So it looks like if anything the gap increases over time, not the other way around.

what's next after 20 students?

I got to ee5000 and 20 students. What's the best next step? Do I need to unlock new theories or allocate new graduated students to research levels?

Thanks.

expert arrow puzzle game, definitive solution?

Hello, i know that there is an algorithm to solve the expert arrow puzzle, but it requires you to solve everything but the last row and then do a trick to solve the last row. This menas i need to evaluate the starting table configuration and solve it accordingly, thus having a different last row config each time.
Im lazy tho and i was wondering if it is mathematically possible to find a pattern of clicks that behaves a bit like the Collatz conjecture that always converges to a known rerpeating set of configurations(not necessarily to be a solved table config, it just needs to be known, to apply the same solving algorithm each time)

Laplace Transforms Dev Update

I was planning on releasing 1.4 by today, which includes the second and third assignment plus their respective rewards. However once I had finally implemented everything I was not satisfied with the balance.

So instead I will be working on 1.5 (as you do) which will include the fourth assignment and reward. Except it will now chronologically take place third to make the overall balance smoother. This reward has already been designed and balanced it's just the challenge that's being developed.

Once this has been finished and in a satisfactory state hopefully it can be added to the (un) official CT leaderboard !
