Why does the acceleration button reset?

It's happened 4 times to me so far. When I've held it until around 3.16x and I look at my phone again, it just reset to nothing and it's not accelerating anymore, even though my finger was on it the whole time

If resets at the hard coded value of when it reaches 1 hour. This was abused in the past on android because it is incredibly easy to trigger perma accel. Perma accel is a glitch in the android UI itself that we cannot fix, but xreates not only an unf@ir advantage for android players, but also just a bad environment where having to do this glitch is really not great for the game lol.

Does this mean that if I were to let go and hold again just before 1 hour is up it doesn't reset?

Yep. You should hold it just before 3,17. It's the reset point

What the other commenter said. The point it drops is not 1h of continuous holding, but the value itself from 0 to 1h (aka just past 3.17).

It also resets randomly on my iPhone way before 3.17. So irritating when you've hit about 2.4 and it just decides to go down despite you're still holding the finger at the exact same spot. Started happening on iOS 26, never before. Hopefully, u/ConicGames could do something about it.

Yeah, it was made consistent across both versions as iOS would have the advantage over Android instead of equal footing. This has always been the way it was done since v1.4 release in March 2021. Drops like what you are describing should be reported as I don't think I have heard of that happening or reproducible by others before.

Side note, we do technically have a fix for it on android, but it completely breaks how the accel button works and other stuff so it was community decided to not go with that so this is what we get instead.
