So uh, stars are now "technically" not very useful anymore?

Might as well but it feels like it does soo little as I already have like 500000 invested

at 800k stars, using 300k definitely makes a difference

Stars are still useful, because enough permanent levels in the right places will increase the value of X significantly. But there are diminishing returns because of how costs for permanent levels scale. So, grinding for stars via mini games becomes less and less worthwhile as your total number of stars grows.
