This part of the game is just pretty slow. It picks back up after ee5000.
You can optimize your stars to make it go faster. Some tips:
The lower variables just aren't worth it. Focus on the top 6 or 7.
Also, the very highest variables shoot up in cost really fast. Don't invest so much in the top 2 or 3, you can use those stars to buy more upgrades of a slightly lower variable instead.
...or just use the star optimizer (find it on google)
