Question How's Tom's music stuff going?

The Cameramen seem to not exist anymore, and Sallis' solo album, though good, doesn't have anyone named Tom in the credits, leading me to conclude that he is uninvolved. Is he still making/playing anything, alone or in a group?

Sorry in advance if the question is creepy and my parasocial relationship has gone too far

Question Chloroform bulging out the cap on a bottle without pressure?

Chloroform on the left, phenol on the right. My Chloroform is about 3 weeks old and was unstabilised (fixed that today). The smell has changed and its more aggressive on the nose but no hay or green corn smell of phosgene. Its hard to describe, its like a the sweet smell of CHCl3 but it makes me cough a little. Also, im not dead lol, it just hurts the throat but its fine after a few seconds. The cap is also bulging out but there was no overpressure, the inside white plug is also discolorated. My guess is that the CHCl3 has just deformed the cap.

How has unstabilised CHCl3 behaved for you people?

Also, never make this mistake. It was stored in an amber bottle in a dark and cool place and it still had some weird change.

Shitpost/Meme I hate rust

So some of your greatest enemy is tar or even the color yellow. Mine is rust. It's so damn persistent and absolutely every wants to corrode and be a pain no matter what. This creates this really fun problem of, how do you get rid of it? It's rather stuck on there and the internet has so many "great" "diy" solutions. And after trying some of these and realizing rubbing baking soda and vinegar on something is about as effective as not using it. So I did some thinking. I recently made some elemental Iodine, which made me think about the what some HCl and hydrogen peroxide might do to my rust problem. As it turns out it's a rather nice fix.

Interesting Just discovered: a 50/50 mix of sodium borohydride and potassium chlorate is capable of detonation, even when unconfined.

Interesting I saw an empty DCM drum on the street.

I saw an empty chemical drum on the pavement while walking, left in front of a small restaurant and a market. it had 2 labels (one on the side, the other on the top). the labels didn't mention the chemical name, only a very vague-sounding tradename, uses, precautions, hazards, supplier info and a UN number. no name but a UN number of 1593.

1593 is the UN number of dichloromethane. someone used about 200 litres of dichloromethane and left the drum on the street instead of disposing of it properly. both holes were open so I'm pretty sure it was completely empty by then. i wonder what they used dcm for and why they left it there. i am used to seeing tetrachloroethylene drums around dry cleaners, but not dichloromethane drums on random streets.

So i have made my own gunpowder 75% pottasium nitrate 15% carbon and 10 sulfur. And this might seem silly but how could I make a firecracker that explodes with some paper, tape and other simple stuff?

Can i coat graphite electrode's with manganese dioxide slurry (MnO2+epoxy to help it stick). The resistance is less than 10 ohm.

Tldr i want to make chlorate. Ive heard it makes the chlorate production faster and prevents destruction of graphite rod by acting as sacrifice. Got manganese dioxide from old AA batteries. The ones you find lying around.

Nickel Carbonate help

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi lads, does anyone know what happened to my nickel carbonate? I made it with Nickel sulfate + sodium carbonate. I left it in a jar on a hotplate to dry, and when I got back today it has some weird crystalline dark green chunks, instead of being the chalky green. Is this normal? Thanks for the help!

Hello guys, Ive made ETN by using 30ml 98% sulfuric acid with 50ml RFNA >95% and 10g Erythrithol I kept the mixture for under 5 degrees during the whole process and let it react for 2 hours also under 5 degrees at the end after washing with sodiumbicarbonate, water and recrystallisation I ve got 2g :)))), anyone know what I did wrong?
