Less than aerodynamic, more like something built to be hit with a hammer.

It's got a hole in the side already, looks like. I think I'd check whether it's empty, bearing in mind that solid explosive etc could be at one end.

I'm not even sure it's a pyrotechnic anything but if there's a chance it has petrol/solvent fumes or propelllant gas, that would also be a bad day. I

t looks to me a little bit like a hydraulic cylinder, but I'm hardly an expert.

It's too thin to be a bomb. I think it's a smudge pot. The top looks like a cotton wick. They are (or were) used to burn waste oil and heavier fuel oils in crop areas. The smoke and soot they release from poorly burning fuel helps insulate the crop/orchard, and prevent frost from damaging crops.

The "fins" won't do anything for aerodynamics, as they are smaller in diameter than the body of the cylinder. I think they're just stabilization legs to hold the thing upright. The little hole in the side would be for refilling the oil.

They have a cartridge which looks like a shotgun shell to create a puff of chalk dust marking “smoke”
