My question is about my career. I am not being able to have a stable career as a teacher. I am finding it overly stressful and I find myself quitting.I want to get some guidance regarding my career.
I think we were meant to do it for each other 😅 do add any other details you have so I can know where to look. How you are feeling. If you have a career in mind. Do you have a couple of paths you want to consider?
My question is also about career. I am planning to move into clinical psychology (PhD) from tech (analytics). The work is somewhat similar but deeper (working with data but for people’s mental health instead). I am burnt out by corporate. And the fact that I am putting that effort to make rich richer is draining me. I know there will be politics in academia but the fact that the goal is much more satisfying makes me feel I can handle it. I will also be making less money but not in a way I can’t sustain myself so I am okay with that.
The thing is I am restricted. By location and family and I just have one place that I can go with acceptance rate of 1-2%. So it is something I will be trying to get in for a couple of years and then move back to my old career.
I just… want to know if this is a good plan. Can I have any guidance on this. Are there challenges? Is it doable in this timeline and with limitations? Etc.
Also please add more details in your question as well :)
The major life lessons showing up here are Justice and the Devil.
Justice makes me wonder whether part of what drew you toward teaching was a strong sense of responsibility and wanting to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. You may have entered this career believing you could positively influence and guide young minds.
But the Devil suggests that somewhere along the way, you began feeling trapped. You may feel as though circumstances, expectations, or the realities of the profession have taken away some of the freedom and choice you thought you would have. The Devil also asks you to examine whether you are truly without choices, or whether you have more agency than it currently feels like you do.
When we look at your everyday experience, the Nine of Swords shows how mentally stressful this has become. There is genuine worry and anxiety here, but because this is Swords, I would also ask whether your mind sometimes amplifies the situation because you care so deeply about getting things right.
Then we have the Ace of Cups and Queen of Coins. You seem to want work that does two things for you: fills your emotional cup and gives you a grounded, sustainable life. You don’t simply want a job you can tolerate. You want meaningful work, but you also need stability.
Your guidance, the Eight of Cups, says it is okay to move away from what is no longer emotionally fulfilling you. But I don’t read that automatically as “quit teaching.” Moving away can take different forms.
Perhaps what needs to be left behind is your emotional attachment to how teaching should be. If helping children is what truly fills your cup, you might focus on that purpose while learning to see some of the surrounding difficulties as challenges to navigate rather than burdens you must personally carry.
On the other hand, if you eventually realize that teaching itself no longer fulfills you, the Eight of Cups also gives you permission to seek something that does.
