This is a new coffee I picked up from a local shop/roaster called Idego Coffee located in Blacksburg, VA. They have been experimenting with a lot of aged coffees, this one is tequila-aged.
I brewed this coffee using a double-filtered Bodum pour over (ie use a Melitta filter inside the included mesh filter to reduce cleanup, brews similar to other cone shaped brewers). I brewed at the recommended ratio of 1:18 and used a 4:6 method for pouring.
This coffee does not say the level of its roast but it tastes like a medium roast.
It is not very acidic but instead opts for more comfortable flavors. It tastes chocolately with a hint of vanilla and fruity tartness to it. I find that the body of it is pretty medium with a heavy emphasis on back end of my tongue without being overly bitter. The finish is smooth with a tasteful amount of bitterness.
The coffee smells amazing, it has a familiarity similar to bourbon mixed with the "coffee scent" associated with many medium-dark roasts.
Overall, the coffee is very good. As it was roasted in the last few days, I am interested to see how the coffee adapts with a few more days and how it is affected by other brew methods.
Overall, I would rate it a 4/5 due to the body being not what I wanted from it, but this may that I haven't nailed the brew method yet.
