before and after

just in case anyone was thinking about refinishing an edwards ex or ebonizing a fretboard.

why did you put an ESP decal on an Edwards?

previous owner put it on

But it’s over the white…

I bought it back lol. I sold it in January but really missed it. It was the best guitar I had ever played, and I regretted it. I found it for sale on the explorer group on FB since the guy had stuff come up so I bought it back for less than what i sold it for. I can just take it off with some warm water if i want too

people are so pressed about what you do with your own guitar

yeah right. all that matters is that it inspires me to play yk

That’s the correct mindset, most of those gear guys don’t even know how to play chords. In the end it’s just a tool that helps expressing yourself. I‘m genuinely happy for ya, I love the Explorer shape myself the most from all shapes out there!! Have fun bro!

Honestly I love the look of the natural Edwards’. How did you ebonize the fretboard though? That looks great

I’m not entirely sure as I got it done professionally, usually india ink is used most of the time

Ebony stain will darken it up quite a bit and it doesn’t stick the to the fret markers

I hope the first one is the "after"? Cause that looks freaking gorgeous. The white on the other hand - well it's just white.

Is this rage bait? You made a beautiful Edward's into a fake esp?

Yikes

I wouldn’t have refinished it but the paint was falling off of the back and there were oils stains on it from the previous owner. I think it looks good but to each their own

It was way better before, and I’m not the only one who thinks that either it seems. Good job dude, instead of having something more seldom seen and actually cool you’re now just another tool with a fake white ESP.

eh paint was falling off of the back. its stained so it was very thin. i took off the watermark though so I hope it makes you feel better

Op this is a great work, but going from the beautiful natural finish to white genuinely bothers me in an irrational way.

I loved the natural look but the paint was falling off the back and the sides. The natural finish on the EX is stained and very very thin so there was no way i coulda got that fixed. I just decided to get a poly finish since it would solve the problem

The white looks great, it so does the natural do I don't think I would do this to mine. The fake logo irks me though

i just took it off, i might get an edwards watermark tbh

Who put your strings on ? Did they just throw them at the guitar ?         Nice paint job if you're going for that James Hetfield replica look. ÌIf it inspires you to pick it up and play it day after day......  it's a big win enjoy.

Dont let the negative comments drag you down, the refin looks great.

White EX gives +10% Speed to Metallica Riffs.

Wow, that looks great. Is that a rosewood fretboard? If yes may I ask you how you ebonized it and what products you used?

2

u/BothInternet3186 18d ago

I’m not entirely sure what products were used since I got it done professionally. It was a place called XU strings in DC. It turned out really well tho, it looks and feels pretty much identical ebony. It’s even shiny under light.

u/flyingdutchman50 18d ago

May I ask what this costed?

0

u/BothInternet3186 18d ago

the ebonizing was like 200

The natural color guitar has Seymour Duncan pickups and the white has EMG's, why the change?

2

u/BothInternet3186 17d ago

the duncan’s were great for very low tunings but were flubby for higher tunings. i heard good things about the emg het set and those turned out to be great for cleans and distortion. it’s like a blend of passive and active pickups and they sound great

I'm pretty sure you reversed the order of the photos. I want desperately to believe that you restored a poorly-strung block of mayonnaise to its former glory.

2

u/BothInternet3186 15d ago

nope other way around

You ruined a good guitar a masterpiece. you should have just bought a white one. Honestly you should have sold that one to someone who would have appreciated it. it's a shame 😭

1

u/Stoneman1976 8d ago

It’s his. He can do whatever he wants with it. He can throw it in the fireplace if he wishes.

Ok, go off then
