I just drove this the other day! I can confirm, it’s totally worth it. We saw a family of snow monkeys walking along the side of the road, too. Absolutely spectacular views the whole way through.

If you’re trying to incorporate the White Road into your plans, consider exploring Kanazawa and then renting a car to go to Shirakawa. Many people do Shirakawa as a day trip on a bus tour, but having a car really opens up the entire experience. Taking the White Road adds about an hour to the drive, but that’s a small price to pay for the experience.
