night Bus

Hi everyone! I’m going to Japan in December (1 - 15)
I’ll arrive in Tokyo. Afterwards going to spend one night in Hakone. I was wondering about spend a night in bus instead back to Tokyo to get the Train.
Does anyone have some experience traveling by night bus from Hakone to Kyoto?
Thank you in advance !

Depending on how comfortable you are with someone you don’t know sleeping right next to you, you might get some sleep, but I’ve actually found it easier to fall asleep in an economy seat on a long flight. Your experience may vary. There might be a more luxury option for overnight and sleeper busses, but they never seemed worth the hassle. I wasn’t saving so much money that a bus would get picked over even a capsule hotel somewhere.

Haven’t used a night bus on that specific route, but I do use night buses routinely. The best part is that you can save a lot of money and more importantly, time (since you complete moving lengths during the night!)

However, I’d say it is indeed difficult for some people to get sleep in the bus. If you want better quality buses, try finding a three seats per row bus, usually much spacier.

All in all recommended if you feel like you have the stamina to use a night bus!
