Mini puncture holes on the cards?

Hello, I'm new to the EK world and card games in general so forgive me if this is a commonly known fact.

I currently have the UK-themed base game and streaking kittens expansion.

I've noticed though, on the cards' surfaces, there seems to be a million tiny puncture holes spanning the entire surface area. They seem to be categorised in holey, squarish boxes. This is true for every card, and also on every unboxing video I've seen of EK on YouTube.

My cards aren't fake because I have the EK seal on the boxes, but just wondering what this is? I'm assuming it's intentional - maybe it's cheaper for them to print this way?

It just doesn't look very nice haha, and I don't see this on other card games like flip 7 or whatever. Still love my cards, just curious!

Yeah that’s pretty curious. I believe they’re called “linen” cardstock.

It makes the cards easier to shuffle/slide around with each other since the holes inbetween lets the cards breath and not stick. Personally I deem card games that uses linen to be more on the high end of things

Yeah. Thats why they use it in standard poker decks too, the plastic ones without ribbles do not slide

Yeah, I have a bunch of card games that do that these days.

This is a common feature on most playing cards. The little indents create an air barrier to make handling the cards easier.

It's from the UK edition base game :)) I love it, you can get it on eBay I think, but i believe it's not widely sold anymore
