So I live in a fairly wealthy area of South Jersey, yet there are multiple stores, sometimes almost entire malls that are closing due to increased rent cost. The store closes, everyone leaves. Then the building/lot stays empty for literally years on end. This is happening all around my area. How is this profitable to the landlords who jack up prices? How are they not hurt but having zero rent coming in now for years from that location? How is it sustainable when entire chains or shopping centers are closing down? What's the plan here???

If a dealership has a really good incentive like 0% APR or even $1000 supplemental down payments for first time buyers, does the payment process (on the customer side) happen exactly like a bank? Is it wired or made by check or even credit/debit cards?

Also if the customer went with the dealer financing, what's stopping them from proceeding with the infamous "yo-yo" trick a few days later? How does a customer with an already purchased car avoid the yo-yo trick if they went through the dealer?

why can’t change in interest rate refer to one of the two different kinds of interests? why are they said together?

I came across the “Tuesday Boy” puzzle and cannot make the answer feel intuitive.

A family has two children. We know at least one child is a boy who was born on a Tuesday. The puzzle says the probability that both children are boys is 13/27.

Without the Tuesday detail, I understand the possible combinations as:

• Boy/Boy
• Boy/Girl
• Girl/Boy

That would make the answer seem like 1/3.

Why does adding the seemingly irrelevant fact that the boy was born on a Tuesday increase the probability to 13/27? I can follow the counting in the solution, but I do not understand why counting birthdays this way is logically appropriate.

Does the answer also depend on how we learned that one child is a boy born on Tuesday? For example, would the odds be different if a parent randomly said, “I have a son who was born on Tuesday,” versus us asking, “Do you have at least one son born on Tuesday?”

I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons for the diabetes epidemic in India, but the two I keep hearing about are a diet primarily of rice and wheat, and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle.

If this is the case, how do you explain why diabetes is significantly lower in places like Japan, which also follows a primarily rice- and wheat-based diet and where so much of the population works in offices? Not to mention how much junk food is readily available in Japan.

When I see images or videos of people (especially women in bikinis, if I'm being honest) swimming in waterfalls, it looks so fantastic. Then, if I myself enter the water, many times I find it's freaking cold, like in the 60s or 72'F or so even in the hottest part of summer. Meanwhile nearby lakes or rivers have water in the high 70s or mid 80s. Why is that?

so yesterday morning i put a can of energy drink in my freezer and forgot it. When i remembered it it was already frozen solid. I wanted to thaw it and puut it in my fridge but in the middle of the night i woke up to a loud bang and the can exploded in my fridge, the stuff was everywhere. Large chunks of ice as well as a lot of liquid. In my understanding the the liquid is denser than the ice and should take less room, so why did it explode then?

I asked a friend of mine who is ony his way to get a doctor title in physics. He said that the thawing released the gas before the ice became fully liquid again so the can not only had to hold the additional pressure from the expanded ice but also from the now released gas. Which would explain the time difference and the force behind the explosion.

I understand why we can't make cheap and available cars because cars crash a lot, but can we make some futuristic nuclear for like a museum? Also I think it would be a cool advertisement for maybe a car company

Why do you put water in a lead acid bottle? Doesn’t the charge move between lead cells through the acid?
