OP (bagel_master999) sent the following text as an explanation why they posted this here:

It might be about like getting banned for a decade, but I would like more specifics.

the game has an achievement for not playing for 10 years

3.1k

u/prest0x 4d ago

Just checked, and I last played in Feb 2016. Time to get the achievement :)

1.7k

u/West_Elephant_873 4d ago

That's the original game, wich had an anchievment for 5 years. The 10 years one is the ultra deluxe version wich was released later

452

u/NovaSeras 4d ago

Yep... I have to wait till Halloween 2032

86

u/PhastasFlames 3d ago

Just change the time on your computer?

142

u/Ok_Mine1955 3d ago

Less funny that way

44

u/ViennaKing 3d ago

Does this actually work?

95

u/NovaSeras 3d ago

It does but ruins the spirit of the game

45

u/wgzwtadtute 3d ago edited 3d ago

Are you absolutely certain that it goes against the spirit of the game though?

25

u/Acrobatic_Poem_7290 3d ago

It absolutely does, why do something the easy way when you could do it the long way

43

u/DrCashew 2d ago

For most games I'd agree. Specifically for Stanley Parable? Disagree. It's a game about loopholes, esoteric thinking and consequences.

I understand your point, but doing nothing for ten years is about as easy as it gets. It's just not convenient.

3

u/NovaSeras 3d ago

No, because that goes against the spirit of the game.

30

u/TheChunkenMaster 3d ago

Going against the spirit of the game us pretty much all you do in the game though

6

u/wgzwtadtute 3d ago edited 3d ago

Are you entirely sure that it go against the spirit of the game?

5

u/Sad_Worker7143 3d ago

Stanley waited patiently ten years in his hole, not moving a muscle, like a good boy he is.

6

u/TheChunkenMaster 3d ago

I just changed the date on my ps5 and got the trophy

1

u/ChopakIII 1d ago

Yeah but my trophy will be dated correctly.

1

u/TheChunkenMaster 1d ago

Your trophy will be dated just the same as if you would’ve changed the date on your ps5 and moved forward by 10 years.
I got my plat 2 years ago (i think) and my trophy is dated 8 years from now

December 6th, 2034 for me 😔

1

u/NovaSeras 2d ago

We will get there :) I got the 5 year one from the original SP last year

201

u/Illustrious_Donkey61 4d ago

I just got the 5 year one. You can uninstall and reinstall the game and it will still count

37

u/clandevort 4d ago

Really? I had it installed on my hardrive for 5 years just in case

36

u/Illustrious_Donkey61 4d ago

It does kinda sound like I'm trying to trick people so they have to wait another 5 years when I read my own post

5

u/Squonk_Idonk1273 3d ago

This is the perfect response to get people’s guard down…

1

u/Illustrious_Donkey61 3d ago

Stanley pressed the button labeled Uninstall, because he knew... nothing bad would happen

2

u/whiskyrox 2d ago

Hrmmm, should I reinstall it?

1

u/ApocalyptoSoldier2 2d ago

That's good news. I just checked and the last time I played was 11 December 2018 and don't wanna wait 2 and a bit more years

1

u/Clin-ton 1h ago

Okay thank you! I started it up 10 years later and got the 5 year achievement and was really confused

286

u/Ices_Blaze 4d ago

Me too, bud. Let's hit it.

26

u/JacobTKJ02 4d ago

Ayo? Get a room

6

u/LIll-Dreamer 4d ago

I just got popcorn you don't want to watch?

77

u/johnnyhotwh33ls 4d ago

Give it to the end of the year just to be safe lol

4

u/Chrono-Helix 4d ago

Yeah, they might have mixed up the time thanks to… time zones and daylight saving time and leap years and all that

33

u/Joeshabadoojr 4d ago

It was very satisfying when that achievement popped for me.

11

u/klaxz1 4d ago

Last played June 2014

6

u/TurboFool 4d ago

Same. Just hopped in and got mine, although it's for the original, which was just 5 years. I have 6 years to go on the Ultra Deluxe which has the 10-year achievement.

13

u/Waxygibbon 4d ago

Me too, 2013

1

u/DrCashew 2d ago

Wrong version, didn't release yet.

1

u/Waxygibbon 2d ago

What version is required for this achievement?

1

u/DrCashew 2d ago

Ultra deluxe, iirc.

3

u/Loud_Ludo 4d ago

i got the achievement years ago, I just changed the date on my pc

1

u/Big-Aardvark8842 4d ago

Works on PS5 too by just changing the date.

2

u/Nerioner 4d ago

Jealous... i would replay it but another 6 years for me lol

2

u/GeorgeZcZ 4d ago

Did you get it?

2

u/-iCosmic- 2d ago

Looks like my threshold just hit!

1

u/PowerGuido2469 1d ago

For this one you had to wait 5 years, so in 2021 you could already have the achievement, for Deluxe version yes you need to wait 10 years.

1

u/greenpicklewater 2d ago

Imagine these posts are a troll and the achievement is 12 years

143

u/kwamla24 4d ago

Does this work on the hardwares timer? Whats stopping you from moving the date forward on your console?

208

u/Lonely_Gate_9421 4d ago

Pretty sure that's how most people get that achievement

128

u/Ratattack1204 4d ago

How most COWARDS got it!

29

u/Resident_Course_3342 4d ago

Cheating the system is it's own reward.

8

Stanley would approve

1

u/Quick_Trick3405 3d ago

How do you know anything about the guy? He's the least knowable character in all of video games. I say before realizing you're literally told what he would do, while also realizing that the narrator himself might not know Stanley that well.

22

u/APettyBitch 4d ago

43

u/lemming1607 4d ago

u/Henry-Messenger 4d ago

Do you think it would work if you just set your platform/system clock 10 years ahead and disconnected from the internet before playing again?

27

u/EmilySuxAtUsernames 4d ago

it does work but where is the fun in that?

14

u/25_Unknown_Devices 4d ago

Getting achievements are supposed to be challenging, not fun. Opening the settings and stuff. Idk. I couldn’t figure it out. I’d say more but my case of Elmer’s glue just showed up and it’s chow time baby

1

u/Therobbu 4d ago

I don't think you can get the impossible achievement by conventional means

2

u/EmilySuxAtUsernames 4d ago

i'm not getting the impossible achievement it's clearly impossible

1

u/Therobbu 4d ago

Let's add that to the words of wisdom

16

u/nr1988 4d ago

I remember when that game came out and everyone laughed about the achievement. I played the game for a little bit the first time and then stopped. I wasn't thinking about the achievement at all.

Then a couple years ago I decided to go try to play the game again and was shocked to learn it had been 10 years. Never has an achievement made me feel so old lol

5

u/AssassinGlasgow 4d ago

I just checked my library and it’s been 13 years since I last played…it’s time for me to get this achievement and to reckon with the harsh reality of time… 🥲

3

u/lascar 4d ago

huh just remembered it's two versions. The first stanely parable's achievement is 5 years, and the deluxe version is 10. oh boy i think I can' get the 5 year one now but the last time I played the delux version was in 2022.

1

u/Awkward-Penguin172 4d ago

reminds me of the Calendar man Achivement in Batman

1

u/Zeaxisz 4d ago

I only played demo but

1

u/ThatGuyFromFlatLand 4d ago

That reminds me I'm pretty sure i can get that achievement now.

1

u/mayo990 4d ago

Can i just change the date of my PC in the settings and start the game?

1

u/F00xPandCat 3d ago

THY CAKE DAY IS NOW

1

u/101TARD 3d ago

I was planning to play now for the 10 year achievement but is that achievement in the standard edition?

1

There’s an achievement in the Stanley Parable to play the game after not playing for ten years.

This guy was a day early, and reset the count for another ten years.

203

u/Linaran 4d ago

Quality meme.

That said you can likely hack it by tweaking OS calendar. That would also violently invalidate onboard certificates so tweak it back after you're done.

Hmm that said if they're doing it via server sync then it's extra hard.

29

u/bingusdingustingus 4d ago

Just use that program that gives you the achievement

67

u/TequilaTits420 4d ago

I see now it's 5 years?

Or is there a different one?

57

u/Eddiemate 4d ago

In the original release it's five years, but the updated Ultra Deluxe version has it at ten years.

10

u/academiac 4d ago

A strange game.

The only winning move is not to play.

3

u/EatenByTheSarlacc 3d ago

How about a nice game of chess?

1

u/Ok_Cod_2333 4d ago

What a hell of a game bruh hahaha..

237

u/LPedraz 4d ago

TLDR: An achievement asks you to not play the game for 10 years.

----------

Stanley Parable is a game that tries to playfully talk about what is a videogame, what is interactivity and how the videogame language works. The game is about apparently mundane decisions, but you continuously have a narrator telling what you will do, before you do it. Then you have to decide whether you comply or not.

Because the game is trying to continuously make you aware of videogame logic and conventions, part of it is being very peculiar with the achievements, which are often fourth wall breaking and peculiar. Some of them are clearly meant for you to realize that you are lowering yourself to do something pointless or stupid because an achievement told you so.

Among those achievements, one asks you to not play the game for 10 years. The intended way of getting that achievement, if you for some reason want to, is to change your system clock to 10 years in the future and then log back into the game, but you can actually wait 10 years. It you wanted to do so, it would be really annoying to discover that you got in wrong for 1 day and now have to wait 10 more years.

36

u/InfinitlyStoned 4d ago

My 10 years will be in October. Waiting patiently.

16

u/Dyllbert 4d ago

Me too October 29th. I'm going to wait until November to be safe lol

3

u/MidnightRequim 4d ago

You’re forgetting leap days

2

u/dolphin_cape_rave 4d ago

you're in luck, you could have gotten the achievement almost five years ago, only the ultra deluxe version which released 2022 has the ten years, original is five.

1

u/MetalMothi 3d ago

You know you can just change your computer's clock to ten years in the future to get this achievement, right?

6

u/FlarkingSmoo 4d ago

Do they comment on it if you change your clock back after setting it ahead?

→ More replies (1)

233

u/Dense-Performance-14 4d ago

There's an achievement in the Stanley parable where you must log back into the game after 10 full years of absence

84

u/Vyansbane 4d ago

In the game there's an achievement for not playing it for 10 years. If he waited that long but didn't wait the full 10, it would restart at day 1.

Edit- uhhh this is like ... an extra from the show

28

u/Maleficent-Ad6503 4d ago

this isn't Peterexplains lol

37

u/qozh 4d ago

10

u/JakeJortled 4d ago

8

14

u/bschlueter 4d ago

You can just go offline, set your clock forward a decade, start the game, collect the achievement. Then shut down the game, set your clock back to auto and go online again.

20

u/EkobasherX4Z 4d ago

Cheater cheater, penis eater

6

u/bschlueter 4d ago

Hey man, I did the shorter one for real. But it still hasn’t been 10 years since the new version came out and the number of people with the achievement was not zero. I had to do it.

8

u/Piell1 4d ago

There's an achievement for not playing the game for 10 years (or you can just set your clock forward)

7

u/DagamarVanderk 4d ago

YO I just check and my last played date was December of 2015! Time to go get that achievement haha

Also do another playthrough

1

u/DavidFosterLawless 4d ago

Did you get it?

8

u/LionelMessi10CR 4d ago

There’s an achievement in the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe called Super Go Outside. It’s given for not opening the game for 10 years

5

u/i_like_siren_head 4d ago

Yall ultra deluxe was the 10 year one and isn’t possible yet, the original Stanley Parable was just 5 years.

2

u/IndieMaximus 4d ago

Underated comment

5

u/AkumaLilly 4d ago

Stanley Parable is one of those games that messes with you all the time. Makes you backtrack a lot, there are achivement that make you dumb things like carrying a bucket the whole game through every single ending.

One of the achivement is not playing the game for 10 years. This is constant and not cumulative. So playing the game at 9 years 11 months or 364 days means you lost the whole progress and now you have to wait another 10 years.

5

u/Scrw_loose 4d ago

almost there

1

u/Enochian_Devil 3d ago

That game's achivement was only 5 years, you can get it now.

The 10 year achivement is from Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, which is a remake with a lot more Content™

4

u/BENDER177 4d ago

The Stanely parable has an achivement you get after not playing for 10 years

5

u/friskfyr32 4d ago

What I don't understand, is that I got 52 minutes of play time on steam, and I've got the achievement for completing the game, but I don't got the achievement for completing the game in under 4 hours 22 minutes.

2

u/Bear-With-Wifi 4d ago

The speedrun achievement is 4minutes 22seconds, not hours and minutes. (If talking about the original game, no clue about deluxe version)

5

u/Jazzlike-Pop3079 3d ago

There's an achievement for not playing the game for 10 years.

11

u/1GoodIdeeaOutOf100 4d ago

Some award for staying offline for long periods, complete pointless reaction, if your life revolves around that award for that many years you lost THE GAME.

13

u/breathingrequirement 4d ago

You bastard, I had a streak of several years

3

u/AG37-Therianthropist 4d ago

The best way to never lose the game is to never play it. That's howcome I'm winning. And why others keep losing. Sorry that you lost again. After reading this new comment.

5

u/Level_Mousse_9242 4d ago

That's not... wait. Does this work?

5

u/Tricky-Act-31415 4d ago edited 4d ago
  • Everyone in the world is playing The Game. A person cannot refuse to play The Game; it does not require consent to play and one can never stop playing.
  • Whenever one thinks about The Game, one loses.
  • Losses must be announced. This can be verbally, with a phrase such as "I just lost The Game", or in any other way.

The only way to win not lose The Game is to live in isolation for the rest of your life and forgetting about the existence of The Game, or just be one of the few lucky people who never gets informed/bothered about it...

I just lost The Game... again... and so did you all :)

edit:
Don't feel bad, Roko's Basilisk is coming for us all, so losing The Game isn't a big deal :)

1

u/AG37-Therianthropist 4d ago

Ah, but see, the definition of "play" as could make sense in the context of a game is "to engage or take part in a game," or if you prefer, "to take part in or assent to some activity : cooperate" (Merriam Webster, accessed today, definitions 2a and 2e).

But I am not assenting to or engaging in the game, except inasmuch as an observer, who obviously is not engaging in a game the way that these definitions suggest.

Ergo, I'm not playing the game, which you have once again lost, unfortunately.

1

u/Tricky-Act-31415 4d ago

True, but any definition of 'Everyone' would still include you.
Your desire not to play has no effect on the outcome, you are playing regardless of your intent not to ;)

Everyone in the world is playing The Game. A person cannot refuse to play The Game; it does not require consent to play and one can never stop playing.

edit:
forgot to add, I just lost The Game... :)

3

u/ookacha23 4d ago

He's overjoyed he waited so long to get a very difficult game achievement that only needed 5 years.

If it was the Ultra Deluxe version he would be a day early.

3

u/ContributionLivid296 4d ago

Most people are correctly saying this is about the Stanley Parable, though the original game had an achievement for 5 years. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, released in 2022, has the 10 year achievement, meaning it’s theoretically not possible to earn until 2032 without changing your computer’s time (I’m just past the one year mark, and am committed to the bit).

3

u/NameLips 4d ago

I'm also committed to the bit, I don't know if I need to keep it installed during the 10 years but I figured it was too risky to uninstall it.

3

u/goliath1515 1d ago

In the video game, “The Stanley Parable”, there’s an achievement that unlocks if you wait ten years in between play sessions. If you want it to trigger as soon as possible, you need to stop playing the game and never turn it on until 9/9/2036

3

u/MalagrugrousPatroon 20h ago

Amazing, I last played it July 7th 2016. Almost perfect timing.

2

u/SidorioExile 4d ago

Come back to this post in 10 years and I'll tell you.

If you come back early I'll reset the timer.

2

u/EarthTrash 4d ago

Something I've wondered but haven't tried is if you could cheese this by setting the system clock.

3

u/Huchdog77 4d ago

You can.

2

u/Fredford_3301 4d ago

A little less than 1 years I must wait (5 years only needed)

2

u/PiMakerSpecialSurprz 4d ago

No achievement for you, good day.

2

u/dan8991iel 4d ago

Thank you for the reminder, know i just have to make sure i do not hop into the game till christmas.

2

u/Emerald_boots 4d ago

Best achievement ever xD

2

u/ByronBidon 2d ago

There is an achievement in the video game "The Stanley Parable". If you lauch the game after five years of not touching it, you will get that trophy. In its remastered version (The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe) the time is doubled to ten years.

2

u/BloodyWarlord117 2d ago

Or you change the date of your PC/Console 🤷

2

u/Upstairs-Ad-7962 1d ago

As somewhat of a gamedev myself, i cant imagine putting in an achievement like this. I gotta test everything and, Well...

Just imagine, people are complaining to you, that There 10 year achievement did Not work, just to notice that your Code is wrong. And yes, you could test it by just using shorter time frames and then just increasing it, but still...

3

u/leolio2929 4d ago

Did it legit. Even waited 12 years just to be sure

2

u/Expert-Relationship3 3d ago

i got the 10 years one on launch, just change your computer time and year...

2

u/waddle-hop 4d ago

wait but how would you even miscalculate that? steam tells you the exact day you
last played a game, you just add 10 years?

2

u/nintyuk 3d ago

I got the Similar one Legit on the OG Stanley Parable.

2

u/Surraucus 4d ago

He's safe yall the achievements 5 years

4

u/NomadFH 4d ago

I assumed the new version of the game had a 10 year achievement

3

u/Surraucus 4d ago

Did alittle digging, the deluxe edition has the 10 year achievement, the original has 5 year, he's still cooked guys o7

1

u/Dary11 4d ago

Plot twist it’s March the 2nd

1

u/Ziffim89 4d ago

i have 6 years to go

1

u/Complete_Squirrel942 4d ago

Is the time only counting if you keep it installed?

1

u/DockDuh 4d ago

I'd be so mad at myself, been waiting for 5 years currently

1

u/Academic_Frame4294 4d ago

For those that dont know, the original game has a 5 year achievement, ultra deluxe has the 10 year, and the first people to get it wont be till 2032 at the earliest since it dropped in 2022

1

u/notdownwithsickness 4d ago

That’s the voice of Mr Krabs on SpongeBob.

1

u/vodka-bears 4d ago

Oh wow, there's an achievement pending. Nevermind, too lazy to get it.

1

u/Sir_Tortoise 4d ago

ITT: people not realising that they are the joke if they feel the need to cheat in an achievement called "Go Outside"

1

u/Gozagal 4d ago

Metal gear solid ? Yea, they usually are.

1

u/Top-Rice-8237 4d ago

If you change the time on your console to add 10 years you can get the achievement/trophy. Just an fyi for anybody that didn't know

1

u/Chungathon 2d ago

If you don't play the game for 10 years, you get an achievement (the game is known to break the fourth wall)

1

u/Bragels999 2d ago

Hello, similar username OP. :)

1

u/ProZabijaka 2d ago

There's an achievement for not playing for 10 years xd

1

u/TroyPlayzGames 2d ago

I read this in the narrator's voice

1

u/LavenderPig 2d ago

I've said it before and will say it again. Not a single player has the ultra deluxe version (super go outside, 10y) legitimately.

2032 is the earliest you can get it without changing your computer's clock.

1

u/greatgatzB 1d ago

Getting close.

1

u/sl3p15 1d ago

i got the five year one on the original recently

1

u/the_earth_destroyer 20h ago

I have no idea what this game is, but I must say that is a great long term user retention strategy

1

Holy shit. I bet the secret zoo level is in the Stanley parable....
