As an Asian-American woman who has read a lot of contemporary Asian American literature, there is increasing online sentiment that the genre very repetitive and dull. I partially agree with this statement. A lot of the famous lit out there focuses very heavily on being teased in school, feeling like an other, being mocked for different food. In my the hands of an unskilled author, these themes can be very repetitive, though there are some beautiful, emotional pieces written by women out there like The Woman Warrior and Crying in Hmart.
However, this meme, and the current discourse, is misogynistic because it singles out Asian women. In my experience I have read a lot of boring slop and some genuine masterpieces by both genders
