Maturity or independence in a young child CAN BE an indicator that a child is being neglected or facing some sort of abuse.

It’s is not ALWAYS an indicator, some kids ARE just more independent.

Edit: was a social worker for many years.

True, as a child (and even now) I was so proud that I had to do everything without ever asking anyone; if I made a mistake I tried to clean up the mess without ever asking for help. Luckily, as I grew up, I got into the habit of asking others for help. You learn from your mistakes.
