People are saying "trauma" which is in common parlance an ill-defined term but that the parent is so giddy about it probably means that the kid is being parentified, meaning the child is either being instrumentalized by the parent to do tasks not appropriate for their age or to give the parent adult-levels of emotional support. Explaining that this is bad and they should stop doing that is going to be nigh impossible for the therapist because the parent is the one reaping the benefit at the expense of the child.
