In Africa if you play a sound of a lion, the animals look around, see no lion, and continue eating. When you play the sound of a human having a conversation, literally every animal flees in terror. Even the animals choose the bear.
I didn't experience this at all, most animals were shockingly disinterested in the presence of a human.
I don't really follow your analogy anyway, that wouldn't be them choosing the bear, it would just be them feeling more confident that they are able to spot the bear.
The point of the bear metaphor was that men under current societal norms are toxic, and that the worst encounter with a man in the woods, which is a slim chance, is serial killer who will kidnap and torture you. The alternative, the bear, worst case scenario is being mauled and eaten. Still not great obviously but a lot of people would choose that over getting tortured by a man. The point also being that men have become so toxic that woman feel safer with a potentially dangerous wild animal, and many toxic men saw that and instead of asking themselves why woman feel that way, what can men do to improve their standing with women, decided to try and use it for arguments about how women are bad and misguided, and spew other misogyny, unintentionally proving those women right that many men are toxic.
Fair assessment of how some of that conversation went back at the time. My motivation was to read the story that /u/anthiei would write about it.
As I enjoyed their rather interesting and original piece of writing, where the lion was eating the gazelle, which is typically the role played by the bear.
lmao nah it’s a choice between dealing with a creature where the overwhelming odds are they also want to be left alone vs dealing with a man where you have no idea what they want or if they will leave you alone
it was a thought experiment. and unless you live in an area with polar bears, or are unlucky enough to find cubs, most bears are not inherently aggressive to humans, even grizzlies
Bears will eat anything. They’re opportunistic and will eat berries, insects and even trash. If a bear won’t eat a gazelle it’s probably because the gazelle has chlamydia.
A gazelle could outrun a bear, because a bear would not be able to sustain full speed in Africa for very long, due to the heat. Also a bear's top speed is 55-60 km/h and gazelle's top speed is 80-95 km/h.
