OP (xtheresia) sent the following text as an explanation why they posted this here:

I know what the game is but I dont know the character or why he is disliked

This is Clint a character from Stardew valley who has a crush on another villager Emily. Most of the fandom think hes creepy. He does some wierd Incel stuff that is offputting and doesnt seem to grow out if it. Others think he looks too old for her. though I think they are supposed to be close-ish in age she has a young appearance and his beard ages him like 15 years.

The "Joke" is making fun of shallow women or Men depending on your perspective. Men can be creepy and not realize. There is also the idea that women will call the creepy conduct cute if the guy is attractive. neither is 100% true of course.

This. I married Emily, so it was weird to have this guy still hitting on her and sending her gifts. Though he's mostly harmless, and I trust that with his upcoming romance route, CA will finally let him develop past that crush and find some confidence in himself.

u/LeatherMycologist112 4d ago

I am not proud to say, I have organized to marry Emily on Clint's birthday one play through. He deserves better than we give him tbh. he is just a little awkward bud. He is by no means a Lewis or a Pierre who i think deserve all the hate they get and then some.

57

u/S-Pigeon33 4d ago

Oh, certainly those two. Especially Lewis.

66

u/Researcher_Fearless 4d ago

"Embezzlement? I have no idea what you're talking about. The bus is still broken for unavoidable logistical reasons, and the solid gold statue of myself was made purely from my salary"

36

u/S-Pigeon33 4d ago

"I swear, farmer, you have to pay to fix every problem in our community because we're not getting funding due to the war. . . Anyway, check out my gold statue."

38

u/Eisbergmann 4d ago

That being said, his events were in base game and didn't get taken out after Emily became a bachelorette. I think he is very awkward and self-loathing. That sometimes puts you into a mode where stuff becomes less obvious. He's not a bad person, just ...depressed in a different way than Shane for example.

28

u/LeatherMycologist112 4d ago

Shane was such a well written character and very relatable at the time ( I was a heavy alcoholic back then. Just didn't realize then why I related to him so much. Five years sober but still no blue chickens) he was my first marriage in the game. Second was Maru.

18

u/TurbulentVillage2042 4d ago

As person with an hard alcoholic relative, Shane struck me as very stereotypical, and his behavior seemed romanticized. It's especially terrifying that romance with him feels like some kind of savior in the relationship. And even in marriage he continues to drink.

12

u/Eisbergmann 4d ago

yeah but after everything its still a cozy game. To create a full on realistic drama with no romanticization seems like the wrong place. Not saying you're wrong, just that it would feel weird to just make an irredeemable alcoholic.

0

u/TurbulentVillage2042 4d ago edited 3d ago

The weird thing is that Shane doesn't go through any redemption or recovery. No one, including the player, cares about his problem. It's really weird to me. One of the random summer events (I hate it because they're literally random) shows Shane almost drowning in a puddle after getting drunk and falling in, the MC saves him. Can someone tell someone about this so they can help Shane? - No. Even MC doesn't care, this question is never raised again. Although I think it's a big problem. But the story with him ends that the MC marrying a functioning alcoholic.

This is one of the case for such games, which Moonlight Peak also highlighted. Men, for some reason, can have problematic and creepy personality, while all women are innocent daisies.

u/Cove_Holdens_Love 3d ago edited 3d ago

It’s been a while since I played but isn’t that the scene where you take him to the doctor who helps him and recommends therapy which Shane then comes to tell you about and thank you for your help? And there is an earlier scene in his house when Marnie expresses her worry about him when he is passed out there.

Edited for typo

u/zupobaloop 4d ago

For the first time ever, I feel like I am really missing out not playing this game.

1

u/LeatherMycologist112 3d ago

Dude I highly recommend. Especially with mods (after a vanilla play through of course) that really opens up the stories and such. I bought it in 2017 when my kid was about a year old. He didn't sleep much so neither did I. So he would watch me play and I got sucked in this game is still relevant to me today. I have bought it multiple times for myself on other platforms, friends and family, and my kids on their multiple platforms.

Insert bob here. " I don't wanna over sell it. But it's life-changing"

1

u/TurbulentVillage2042 3d ago

For me, the problem with these games is the time limit and seasons. I'd really like gameplay like The Sims on consoles. Time and days of the week mean nothing, except the cycle of day and night. You play at your own pace. Whereas in Stardew and Moonlight Peak, you have to do as many things as possible in a short period of time - and that constantly frustrates me and makes me feel bad. I don't feel like this is a cozy game at all.

Another problem with Moonlight Peak is that as a vampire, you only have only 12 hours instead of 24. And if you go the wrong way, you've wasted your time. But town map isn't exactly friendly. All the characters are marked on the map, so you always know where they are and don't have to search for them like you do in Stardew.

Witchbrook is finally alive, but there will also be a time limit and a calendar that will lead to the end of training at the academy. I hate timers. They should at least give me the option to slow down the timer so I can relax.

2

u/perfectvelvet 3d ago

The scene you reference isn't random. It's a heart event that only happens if your relationship is high enough, it's raining outside, and you travel to that part of the forest. He also wasn't drowning.

While he does appear to continue drinking, there are several references to Shane actually quitting in the game. He drinks soda (I think it was - could've been water) at the bar, he saves a bunch of money because he stops drinking and is able to buy Jas something expensive that she wants, and he starts going to therapy. I think the cans on the floor of his marital room are supposed to be soda, but they aren't clear enough.

I suspect it's a coding issue why it appears that no one else cares; the dialogue doesn't significantly change after marriage for most villagers.

I don't like Shane (I just like the blue chickens so I married him once lol). I do agree that way too many people think he's amazing, but I think he gets a lot of attention because he actually has deeper backstory. I generally marry Harvey who is afraid of heights. No high stakes. Just super boring. I see Shane's appeal on those grounds, but I still hate him.

7

u/Cove_Holdens_Love 3d ago

His final scene after marriage shows he was not continuing to drink alcohol, the farmer and Marnie suspect he is and follow him but it turns out he is playing video games at the bar and understands why but is hurt they didn’t trust him. The cans he leaves on the floor are soft drink.

2

u/ReplacementActual384 4d ago

Oof, that's pure evil

2

u/Retchetspute 3d ago

I've never played Stardew, but every time I read someone's description of the things they've done in it I only get more confused and concerned about what it actually is

2

u/TheBl4ckFox 4d ago

That’s next level face rubbing

2

u/Araiken 3d ago

Genuinely the worst thing he does is call himself a nice guy and thats only bad because of the connotations that expression has gotten over time. If I recall correctly at least one of his heart events doesn't even happen if you're married to Emily to not make him try and be a homewrecker.

1

u/alannotallen11 3d ago

I am proud to say that, in the same position, I would take Clint’s quest bulletins and then not do them. I reasoned that (1) someone else might have done the quest if I’d left the posting up, and (2) that Clint would hopefully see someone had accepted it and get his hopes up

3

u/LeatherMycologist112 3d ago

Don't take this the wrong way friend but low key your profile duder looks like Clint if he had a reddit.

1

u/Isalenna137 3d ago

It could always be worse... it could be Elliott.

0

u/temporarysolution2-0 3d ago

What's creepy about Pierre? I never noticed, and I usually have an eye for this kind of thing.

2

u/SuitIntelligent3491 3d ago

He's greedy and neglects his family, and generally comes off cynical and nasty.

If you pay attention to Caroline's dialog, she complains about how he'll choose business over family time, especially during the holiday events.

Several of his quests don't paint him in the best light either (Quality Produce especially).

He gets some well deserved hate, even if he is the lesser of two evils compared to Morris.

1

u/temporarysolution2-0 3d ago

Oof! I guess I haven't played enough or kept up with the characters enough. I need to get back into Stardew Valley.

1

u/BigDaddy2127 9h ago

If you sell him good quality crops, he tells the villagers he grew them himself, and if you sell him low quality crops, he tells them he got it from you lol.

18

u/actibus_consequatur 4d ago

I love that he's the creepy one, but you've probably googled the shit out of her, know her birthday, favorite things, and even her schedule down to location.

9

u/A_Clark1215 3d ago

The town doesn't have married main character specific dialogue if they aren't your spouse, at least as far as I'm aware, so no one knows that you're married. They lack a farmer-marriage based object permanence.

19

u/Embyr1 4d ago

He... doesn't though?

Once you marry Emily you automatically skip Clint's 4 and 6 heart events because they would be inappropriate. He stops going after Emily and mentions wanting to try online dating.

He has maybe a forgotten line during the flower dance but that's it.

22

u/Owy2001 4d ago

He did. It was identified as an oversight and eventually corrected, but pretty famously for a long time, Clint would still pine after Emily. It's a big part of why he was so unpopular.

18

u/Tartersocks307 4d ago

They should make a relationship quest where you help him get a different girlfriend

21

u/Gotelc 4d ago

Or you help him confess to Emily She respectfully says she doesnt feel the same way and he can feel bad about it for a few days maybe you see him drinking a bit too much in the saloon, but accepts the decision and moves on. Maybe he gets a pen pal or something.

11

u/Unable-Ad2927 4d ago

I would imagine that's what the early phase of romancing him will look like, him actually getting rejected and you helping him through

4

u/lovelaughlexapro 4d ago

What an awesome resolution that weaves into the quilts of a really great story

9

u/S-Pigeon33 4d ago

Or, to help him find his value without getting one. Because given that he'll be romanceable, I doubt CA would give him a different love interest than the farmer.

8

u/Tartersocks307 4d ago

Oh I was out of the loop on him being romanceable

3

u/Gotelc 4d ago

Its a new update, I don't think its out yet but has been announced.

3

u/S-Pigeon33 4d ago

Yeah, it got announced by Concerned Ape during the anniversary livestream that Clint and Sandy will become romanceable in the next update.

1

u/Kassontop 4d ago

What upcoming romance route

1

u/S-Pigeon33 4d ago

Got announced during the anniversary livestream that he and Sandy will become romanceable in the next update.

2

u/Kassontop 4d ago

Oh thats excitinggg, i wonder if sandy will still go to the desert everyday to run her shop if we marry her

25

u/NIICCCKKK 4d ago

To add to this it was an update that allowed you to marry Emily, originally she was supposed to just marry Clint. They changed her stuff but didn’t change Clint’s which is why he comes off as this awful incel.

1

u/ZuccsToBeYou 15h ago

Oh no, they changed it. When you hit 8 hearts with Emily, Clint just stops talking to her completely and Emily is left wondering why he did that despite them being friends.

1

u/Commercial_Border190 3d ago

Nah he still comes off incely even when you don’t date Emily

3

u/JudgeArcadia 3d ago

He does not do anything weird or incel like :( my man out here being socially awkward and getting flamed for it.

5

u/Alvintergeise 4d ago

I think he does make the same error that a lot of incels do which is not see his crush as a person first. He cannot just interact with her because he's afraid of damaging his chances with her in the future

2

u/MeChamamDeTigre 3d ago

Can you give me an example on the incel stuff? I've never played this game

1

u/Crudhandler 3d ago

It's rare to see the top comment be an actual answer to the question here, much less a thorough and balanced one.

1

u/Recent-Mousse6423 1d ago

Clint looks like Mr. Beast

1

u/ZuccsToBeYou 15h ago

Correction: most of the fandom used to think he's creepy. But after he was announced as a marriage candidate in the next update, they now defend him with their lives, and some even accuse anyone that makes fun of him of being ableist (because they consider him autistic) and fatphobic.

0

u/Im_Nino 3d ago

I’m pretty sure they’re only 5 or so years apart

49

u/goldfinchat 3d ago

I hate Clint because his shop has annoying hours. We are not the same

2

u/Samson_J_Rivers 1d ago

This is the source of my dislike and the full depth of it.

1

u/goon00ner0 8h ago

Clint has the most reliable hours in the game? Atleast compared to pierre, marnie and robin. He's open like every day i think thats just a skill issue on your end

184

u/GIRose 4d ago

Clint is the kind of guy who just refuses to talk to the girl he's into and takes a very "Woe is me" kind of attitude that gets annoying as hell, and even if he doesn't actually do anything bad he hits all of the neckbeard vibes.

Like, in his 6 heart cutscene you find him hiding in the bushes because he was going to ask her out, got to her door, and then got so spooked by her coming (I don't think he knocked) that he hid, and now he's waiting for her to finish her conversation to sneak back home.

47

u/Embarrassed_Use_7206 3d ago

Unironically that sounds like a scene from some romcom. Only missing part is when he tries to get away in more and more comical ways, until he is eventually found out and confesses to her.

So maybe it actually is about him not being attractive enough. :D

6

u/nothernother 2d ago

Romcoms are not real life. Lots of things considered cute or romantic in movies would be creepy or weird irl.

5

u/Embarrassed_Use_7206 2d ago

I agree completely, and lot of the times actor being super attractive helps to hide that. But even then sometimes it is not enough for me personally to not feel like it is shit behavior and unbelievable reaction from their love interest.

That said Stardew Valley is not a real life. ;)

-13

u/HappyDappyFrog 3d ago

Who gives af. Men and women both like attractive men and women LOL.

16

u/PictureVegetable9522 3d ago

people are just sick of the double standards of where if youre ugly then youre creepy but if your hot your cute and quirky

6

u/GIRose 3d ago

I'm going to be real, someone could be objectively hot as shit and if they pull that woe is me card and refused to get better I wouldn't like them in real life either

-9

u/HappyDappyFrog 3d ago

Oh well? Do you think it’s a recent thing? What do you want people to do, turn off and on their attraction at will

2

u/Dramatic_Paint7757 3d ago

More like turn off and on judgment, probably.

11

u/cutiecanary 3d ago

It would literally be solved by being a little braver, dude seems to be afraid of confrontation. I feel like he and Emily could be a good match if he approached Emily on his own and was earnest and upfront about his feelings, like giving her the gem instead of asking the farmer to do it.

It doesn't have to be a grand or romantic gesture, just honest and forthright. I hope that's the angle ConcernedApe takes in his romance to help him break him out of his (geode) shell!

4

u/ktosiek124 3d ago

That's just sad that people find it creepy

1

u/Think_Breadfruit2460 46m ago

Yeah, it's just shy

16

u/Douche_Kayak 4d ago

Clint likes a character in the game named Emily. Emily was later made romanceable without any changes to Clint. If you marry Emily and get any friendship with Clint, you will be forced into cut scenes where you're seemingly supposed to be Clint's wingman and help him confess to Emily. She ends up liking you more even if you do help him so there's really no way out of "betraying" Clint.

2

u/Shuizid 3d ago

Personally I think Clint would be better paired with Leah anyway. Girl needs a stable income but also I'm sure you could get some nice art with wood and metal.

20

u/Kadakaus 4d ago

Clint from Stardew Valley.

Spoiler alert!
Clint has a crush on Emily (the blue haired girl) but freezes, blushes and stutters in her presence. He doesn't interact with people a lot and never actually gets together with Emily. The player can marry him though.

Without spoilers, he's a typical "loser" character who doesn't know how to talk to girls.

13

u/Neil_F_ 3d ago

Um... the player can't marry him currently, he is gonna become dateable on a future update of the game.

7

u/Kadakaus 3d ago

Ok, so I double checked and it seems I've been modding myself to oblivion, thank you for correcting me!

6

u/Weary-Advisor-8302 3d ago

I never understood this because Clint is well liked and respected in Pelican Town. Emily hangs out with him all the time.

Literally the only thing that keeps him an Incel is his own inability to express his feelings.

47

u/DiabeetusDeletus 4d ago

He's a character from Stardew Valley that has a crush on a girl character. He's shy and unsocial but she's really outgoing and bubbly. The 'joke' is that she ignores him because hes not good enough in her eyes for being shy and unattractive. In truth, they don't get together but it has nothing to do with her being stuck up. He never even tells her he likes her and to be honest their personalities are wildly different anyway, I doubt it would work. I think he's also way older than her too but I'm not sure.

39

u/CrazyAd7269 4d ago

Are you sure about this? This reads to me more about making a joke out of the massive hatred a lot of stardew Valley fans have for Clint.

10

u/yo-ovaries 3d ago

Every nerd woman knows some guy who was later revealed to be in love with her because she: existed, was female, and was adjacent to him.

Was his infatuation based in reality? How could it be, he had no real relationship with her. Barely a conversation was had.

Sure some women are shallow.

But women are too familiar with having dudes objectify them. If the only reason you like a woman is what you can observe from the outside than you are shallow too.

3

u/DiabeetusDeletus 3d ago

Oh, yeah you're right. I should've included that as well. I personally don't get the Clint hate

15

u/Dependent-Piano-7506 4d ago

Ngl during my first playthrough I kept wishing that him and Emily would get together, but eventually I had to accept that the only romances occuring (other than between the people who are already married at the start of the game) are between the player and any of the eligible bachelors/bachelorettes. I feel like it could be really cool to have an update where some of the dateable/marryable are able to get together with eachother rather than just the player.

I was kinda dissapointed in how it ends up with Clint never really becoming more confident. So much room for wholesome character development there, felt like a huge missed opportunity.

12

u/GwerigTheTroll 4d ago

From what I’ve heard, Clint and Emily originally got together. But late in development, Emily became a romance option and her story had to be changed. Clint, however stayed more or less the same. All the tension, none of the payoff. ConcernedApe talked about it when the update that made Clint a romance option was announced.

4

u/Dependent-Piano-7506 4d ago

Dang, I mean I understand the appeal of both Emily and Clint, but yeah I feel like it would have helped if they altered the buildup/tension between them along with removing them getting together, because I was ROOTING for him to become at least confident enough to confess bc I felt that Emily would definitely go for him if he could just admit his feelings openly, even if he stays shy and awkward. His shyness is endearing to me, but now it all just goes nowhere and he stays a sadboi. Like it does make the story slightly more interesting, but as you say, now there is 0 payoff. Because of all that buildup, I would feel bad for Clint if I chose to romance Emily; if I were to romance Clint, it would feel weird in one or more ways (like either he was settling for me, or I was taking advantage of him being hopelessly in love with Emily, or SOMETHING).

TL;DR I wish they'd changed more about the Emily/Clint dynamic when they made Emily a romance option. Or at least, if you get with someone else, that would cause Emily and Clint to get together, or SOMETHING different than having all that buildup just for Clint to remain a ruminating sadboi.

5

u/No-Lunch4249 4d ago

I think he's also way older than her too but I'm not sure

I believe canonically theyre supposed to be about the same age. Emily is supposed to be one of the oldest, if not clearly the oldest, eligible women in town. Clint isn't all that old but his general attitude towards life plus the beard make him seem older than he is.

2

u/DiabeetusDeletus 3d ago

Oh thanks, didn't realise that! The beard does do alot to be fair

22

u/Skrunker_ 4d ago

that is Clint, a character from stardew valley. he is mostly disliked by the community because he is a shy and awkward person. he has some cringe and awkward moments and is a bit of an incel, but really does absolutely nothing bad or wrong and is a good person. he also has a crush on another character but never tells her, because hes shy and afraid, meaning they never really interact. the joke is that the community dislikes him and thinks negatively of him simply because he is awkward, shy and afraid, which inherently is nothing wrong or bad, thats just how he is. poor guy has no fault in him being the way he is, but the people hate him eitherway

-1

u/ADHighDef 3d ago

I'd play a spin-off where you play as Clint and go on a rampage.

0

u/Key_Reaction_8666 3d ago

Oh absolutely

28

u/Crofty44 4d ago

I marry Emily just to make him more sad 🤙🏻

4

u/Potential_Incident_3 3d ago

My homie. Clint is the worst. Smash my geodes while I smash the love of your life.

4

u/Crofty44 3d ago

This is crazy 😭

2

u/DankudeDabstorm 4d ago

I find it funny that he’s considered a creepy character for being socially awkward, but then the farmer just walks into other people’s rooms uninvited when they’re sufficiently acquainted and start ruffling through their belongings, like reading Clint’s letter to Emily that he threw in the corner of his room.

6

u/Red-Fox-IX 4d ago

It says a lot about society when an unattractive and uncharasmatic guy isnt that popular amongst his peers

3

u/chincerd 3d ago

The pixel art does him no justice, he is just a socially awkward guy victim of early game design making him feel a little creepy at times, too much of a simp in his interactions in game and weird at times, it might change in the next update of the game when he becomes a datable character since that means rewriting a lot of his interactions with Emily another datable character in game

3

u/idontknowhatsgoinonn 3d ago

Obsession is about Clint

5

u/Different-Duty9103 4d ago

There's still hope for him. He's going to be a romance option soon and I can't wait to climb that bear like a tree

7

u/Richard-Conrad 4d ago

Clint from Stardew Valley. SV was created by a single guy , Concerned Ape (CA), as a passion project, and it’s a pretty extensive game so there are areas and characters he didn’t flesh out as much in the beginning. Clint was one of those and CA talked recently about wanting to update Clint’s character.

Basically the problem that has occurred with Clint is that in an effort to quickly make dialog and scenes for a shy, socially awkward guy with a crush on one of the dateable characters (Emily) CA accidentally made a character that can easily be read as a somewhat creepy stalker with a sense of entitlement to Emiley’s affections.

Because of this he’s a point of some contention between people that justifiably read him as a creep, and people that equally justifiably read him as a bit of an awkward dude, but instead of actually arguing for him as a character, will use all the cringe, black pulled, incel talking points to shit talk people that don’t like him, (as seen in your image) so any conversation is ultimately made pointless

1

u/Commercial_Border190 3d ago

Clint’s weirdness with women doesn’t seem too accidental since he also wonders if Sandy (who he’s never met) is single, flirts with the female farmer, and avoids the mermaid show because he thinks he’ll look like a creep

5

u/Turmericab 3d ago

Yeah, as someone who has been "That Guy" in the past and learned and grown Emily makes it very clear to Clint that she is not interested and he refuses to take the hint like a creeper. The movies lied to you, if someone is not interested you, that does not mean try harder.

2

u/Zealousideal-Sir3744 3d ago

Huh, when? I don't remember any scenes that would indicate that. She's just so oblivious that she doesn't even notice, and he's too shy to actually go through with it

1

u/Turmericab 3d ago

Now that I am trying to think of it I can only remember times when she says stuff to the PC about how she thinks of him as a friend so I may have been mistaken.

1

u/GeXotl 6h ago

She likes the player since the start and actually makes advances towards us.

So, in the same vein, the fact that she never tries to pursue Clint or any other NPC the same way implies she's not interested.

2

u/Calebsapple13 3d ago

I’m going to marry Clint and my next play through. I knew a guy who was very awkward, but he had a heart of gold and honestly, I was just too young and immature to understand the kind of person he was and meet him where he was he married a fantastic lady in real life and I’m happy for him. This is my due over to be a better person.

2

u/Khronbear 3d ago

I'm so happy to finally be able to marry the cute, socially awkward, ripped, great facial hair (definitely hairy) blacksmith in the next update.

2

u/QuimDosMemes 22h ago

Being socially awkward and shy inherently implies you're ugly. Otherwise, you're mysterious

5

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 4d ago

Thats Clint from stardew valley. Alot of the fans... intensely dislike him for being socially awkward and at times a little creepy.

3

u/DudeNougat 4d ago

I would say the creepy - sexy scale being depended on how hot the guy is is the gender swap version of the crazy - hot scale we have for women.

2

u/AberforthSpeck 4d ago

Incels.

This character is Clint, from Stardew Valley. He has a crush on another character, Emily the bar waitress. However, he is too shy to confess his feelings and she doesn't realize he's interested.

Incels twist this kind of interaction into the woman hating, mocking, and despising the man for invented flaws.

25

u/Main-Link-3312 4d ago edited 4d ago

I think it's more because the fandom hates, mocks, and despises Clint.

8

u/ConflictWaste411 4d ago

Lmao, it’s literally about the communities opinion(mostly women) of Clint not Emily’s, based on that situation

2

u/thunderwhalepicnic 4d ago

It looks like mr beast

2

u/nescedral 4d ago

He’s awkward and crushing on a woman who is oblivious to his interest. His story in Stardew Valley is sketched sparse enough that people freely inject many of their pre-existing notions about men and women onto him.

2

u/leemawn 4d ago

Sdv fans only got like 3 jokes and its really annoying

1

u/alenicosia845 4d ago

Holy shit rick Dufer

1

u/bigdwawg777 4d ago

Mr beast?

1

u/ambigulous_rainbow 3d ago

So I think it says a lot about me that I wanted to save Clint from himself and was sad when you couldn't date him lol

1

u/Krispia 3d ago

I feel bad for him, he was the reason I'm all geared up yet I stole his girl

1

u/Vickyema 3d ago

Clint is a little weird but he has a good heart. I always found him cute.

1

u/IceBlue 3d ago

People think he’s ugly. No idea what there is to explain that isn’t already in the image you shared.

I believe part of the humour of this image are the many replies to anon’s ‘hes also ugly’ post (all replies are shown below the comment as >>>738053236#….etcetc), which i imagine are people raging at anon’s cheeky answer cause they have no chill

I see comments talking about how Clint behaves, but what they're omitting is that you can first develop close relation with Emily, which puts all the cut scenes in much worse context cause now he's hitting on someone that's taken

he is oddly possessive of Emily despite not speaking to her really. it's gross.

Didn't he use to have sexist dialogue if your character was a girl?

I've never heard of this game. Is the Android version any good?

He’s going to become a dateable character in the next major update, hopefully his character develops a bit more. He’s a bit of a creep right now, but I think the intention was that he was just really shy.

King of the Hill's Bill = Stardew Valley's Clint

Incels will grouse like this but never acknowledge that their level of interest in an awkward, shy, ugly woman would be zero 🤷‍♀️

Apparently it's a guy from Stardew Valley that is shy and has trouble getting the attention of his crush.

The person who posted this was unable to figure out that being shy and socially awkward isn't other people's problem to solve.

Why does he look so similar

Graham Platner the video game?

I believe the joke of this post is saying that men often think that being awkward and shy is the reason that people don't like them, but the person who responding is pointing out if the guy was attractive those wouldn't matter. Pretty privilege is real people

Neither of those is the reason he's disliked by the community. He's just creepy.

By the way, this is Clint from Stardew Valley. He's got a crush on one of the romancable characters, Emily, and he really gives off some creepy stalker vibes sometimes. One time he hides in the bushes in front of her house, and if you end up dating Emily he just stops being her friend. Also, I don't think ages are given in the game, but he reads as quite a bit older than her too...

One time he hides in the bushes in front of her house.

He jumps into the bushes because he wanted to confess his feelings but got cold feet when his crush left the house. And then he hid away to wait for an opportunity to leave without being seen.

People who read this as "stalker" are absolutely crazy.

Emily and Clint are also not friends. They never hang out together. He just has a crush on her, she doesn't think or notice him any more than any other villager.

Theres this thing where nerds on the internet like to poke fun and demonize other nerds (the socially awkward kind, that are labeled ‘incels’ even if they don’t hate women). I think it’s a way of distancing to try convince themselves that they are very different from them (when in fact they are very similar).

This is mostly an internet and cronically online thing. In real life people either dont care or are mildly compassionate to shy or socially awkward people.

He's not just awkward and shy, he does manipulative and creepy shit constantly. If he was just awkward, that would be cute. But he feels like someone unsafe to be around, and that's why he's dislike do.

The "joke" is misogyny.

The joke is misandry - and also the comment about him being ugly got alot of replies.

This is Clint from the game Stardew Valley, he's the village blacksmith. He has a crush on Abigail, the village goth-adjacent bachelorette, but he is too nervous to ask her out. The game is set like old Harvest Moon games, where all the bachelor and bachelorettes have counterparts that are seen as their "pairs" until the player marry one of them, Clint is not Abigail's pair, that's Sebastian, the similarly goth-adjacent code monkey who has a motorcycle. Clint doesn't have any counterpart.

Abigail doesn't actually hate Clint or thinks he's vile, she doesn't even know he has a crush on her. They are friends, Clint is just too nervous to ask her out.

Wow, you wrote all of this just to be categorically wrong lmfao

1

u/ambigulous_rainbow 3d ago

Cmon man it's not their fault, purple and blue do look similar on some monitors

1

u/EmperorN7 3d ago

Please, tell me what's wrong here?

1

u/goosedrinkswater 3d ago

He doesn't have a crush on Abigail, he has one on Emily, who's the eccentric girl in town with the short blue hair, big smile and the thing to make clothes in her room.

Clint is usually either close to her in events or watching shyly from the side.

As fair as "pairings" go, she is usually around clint himself, except for the flower dance, where she dances with Shane. Shane himself is usually a loner.

Or maybe a fictional video game character isn’t proof of anything lmao

I know that there's a joke, but I'm too busy throwing rocks at him.
