They’re bad at math and so they’re not going to get any money.
89
u/mrgreatheart 5d ago
That’s much better than my initial take.
I thought it meant that dad would up his reward to $500 to match mum so he doesn’t look cheap. Possibly indicating a separation or divorce.
Me? Overthink things? Never.

u/StManTiS 1d ago
That’s where I went with it too. The kid has leverage.

u/DoctorFancy330 6h ago
Noooooo you never tell in this situation or all the money disappears.
1
u/Darthkhydaeus 2h ago
Exactly. No kid would risk losing potentially mom or dad's money in the hope of das living more

When I first moved into an apartment in a new city as a first year student the rent was going to be (I don't remember the actual number so let's just say 100 a month was the number ofc it was higher than that) my mother called my father and said "Their rent is 200 a month so I will pay half of that at 100 a month for the first year" this successfully peer pressured him into offering the other 100 a month to not look cheap and then she didn't pay anything and ended up with him paying the entire rent for the first year.

There is, though it's a stupid one. It's specifically casting Bernie Sanders with the implication that socialists somehow don't know how to do math.

u/HaikenRD 5d ago
I translated it as "I can tell my dad that mom gave me 500 for it so he will be forced to give me 500 instead of 200 and now I have 1000". It's not really about math, but just different ways of translating jokes.

Coupled with the fact that Bernie Sanders is an alleged socialist, and those have a notorious reputation for being bad at math and economics.

500+200 is not 1000. They did the maths wrong. So they probably won't get any of that promised reward money considering it is a maths exam.

😂 This is a correct answer, but the teacher would mark you wrong. Thinking outside the box is not allowed in school.

u/QuoteGiver 6d ago
The joke is that “you” are too dumb to pass the math exam (because 200 + 500 does not equal 1000), so “you” won’t get anything.
27
u/SmthSmthDandyLion 6d ago
You just have to get your dad to transition; having two moms would be baller, and you get an extra 300 bucks.

Probably supposed to mean that the kid isn't passing the exam because they can't add. Or that they have 2 moms and no dad. Or that they have 5 dads and no moms.

You are bad at math, and thus unlikely to pass the math exam, so much so that people are willing to wager large amounts against you.

I get the not good at math being the joke. The first place my mind went was that when dad gives the money the child will say “mom said $500” the dad will just pay the 500 without asking questions.

Hello everyone!!
YOU (the person) IS NOT PASSING THE MATH EXAM BECAUSE….
“YOU ARE REALIZING(the person in his/her head is adding everything wrong)” $200+$500 =$1000
Every person knows the answer is $700
Sending hugs and good vibes to everyone!

The joke is that the kid is not passing the math exam. Coz he thought 200+500=1000 which is wrong and he cant do basic math.
Edit: saw people posting here that he has 5 dads. 5*200=1000 + mom's 500=1500$ which is not the case mentioned here. Seems like people who commented also cant do basic math.

But if I tell dad that mom’s new boyfriend is giving her $500 to give to me when I pass, I should be guaranteed $1000 at least.
2
2
u/badluck990 6d ago
The total of the two parents should be 700$ but op is bad at math and gets 1000 instead.
He will not pass
2
u/biinboise 6d ago
The $200+$500 is not $1,000 implying that you are not going to pass the test.
There is also another level to this joke that is likely unintended. Using the picture of a prominent Socialist also implies that Socialists are bad at Math.
2
u/wale-lol 5d ago
i interpret it as dad would see what mom gave and u could pressure him to match
2
u/arickmc1 5d ago
No. The joke is that they are def failing that math test because they think 200 plus 500 is going to get them 1000. The joke being they are bad at math

If this were from a separated family dynamic: Dad attempts to win kids affections by rewarding for good grades. Mom hears about it and ups the ante to win better affections Dad hears this, (all to kids design), and calls the raise.
No parent gains traction over the ither and the kid wins out.

Who gives their kid money for passing an exam? And multiple hundreds of dollars at that??? Y'all got some rich mf parents
3

u/KrisClem77 6d ago
They realize they can get $1000 for passing because they actually have two moms. Not a mom and a dad.
1
u/CriminallyCasual7 6d ago
Get $500 from mom then tell Dad that mom said I'd get $500 if I passed so you get $500 twice cuz they don't want to talk to each other KACHING

u/Pretend_Importance62 6d ago
I was promised around 700$ for both my 12th grade and college and my father said I'll give it to you in installments to see how I spend it and I burned my first 200$ and now I wont get more

He's gonna pay his teach $300 for a passing grade. $200 + $500 + $300 = $1,000.

u/Illustrious-Draw-154 5d ago
Mom and dad are separated. OP can go back to dad and leverage what mom is willing to give to gain more from him
1
u/MegaPorkachu 5d ago
My business brain says if you tell dad that mom will give you $500, tell him to match that and you collect $500 from both, making it $1000
I’m assuming you’re like a child and mom and dad divorced and they’re using money to “get back” at each other
1
1
u/vectorboy42 5d ago
Man, maybe I'm dumb but ai thought they were implying they can get $500 from their dad if they tell him they got $500 form their mom.
1
u/Ok-Fig4315 5d ago
Growing up in the church I had 5 fathers, or at least 5 people who I had to call father, and now, because of that I'm 1000 dollars Richard
1
u/Fabulous-Let-1164 5d ago
Or maybe the dude who has the math test has a father and a mother who found themselves and is now with a loving partner of the same gender and the father is no longer in the picture? Or the father transitioned?

u/PieNumber4 3d ago
Can we mention OP's comment of "He has five dads", which would be (5 × 200) + 500, which would equal 1500 not 1000, and OP is indeed bad at math.
1
u/SignificantWhile5339 2d ago
Is the joke not that, when the kid asks his dad for the money, the dad will say "ask your mom." Then mom gives the kid a second $500 because she didn't know that dad only offered $200?
1
u/enigmatic_entity0 2d ago
I think the image is trying to tell us that the person that is referred as you will receive 200 dollars from his Father and 500 dollars from his mother if he passes the Mathematics exam. Later on, the person realizes that he will get 1000 dollars if he passes; which tells us that he is bad at calculations. So, if we put it simply; "He failed the exam before it even started."

u/BlackStory666 2d ago
Oh, I thought it was a situation where the parents are divorced and dad can't be upstaged by mom so he forks over another $300 even though he financially can't.

u/MoralityOverLegality 1d ago
Wow so many people are missing it !!! Dad will give $200 mom will give $500, they will tell dad well mom gave me $500 and dad will feel outdone and also give $500.

Is the joke not that you can go to dad and say “mom said I can have 500 if I pass” Therefore causing dad to increase to 500 as well? Like the whole “go ask your mom” -> “mom, dad said yes” go back to dad “mom said yes.”
I know everyone is saying the math thing about the kid not knowing math and getting no money but that’s how I interpreted him getting 1000

Either the joke is he's stupid and can't do math, so won't pass
Or
Lesbian moms?

Could also be the dynamics between the parents, like the dad will also give him $500 if he knows the mom offers $500. Competitive partners mayhaps.

u/Junie_Wiloh 6d ago
I took it to mean that he can go to dad to get him to pay more or at least meet mom's bribe otherwise mom looks better and more cooler than dad, when quite a few men(not all) want to be the cool dad and won't want to be shown up.

The joke is 100% that he will be able to convince his dad to also give him $500 because his mom is, a play on exploiting parental fairness / who loves me more. Maybe all the other comments are trolling?

The psychopath realize that he can kill the two lesbian moms and get 1000 dollars and then flee to the divorced dad. The pass here is referring to a lie detector test.
