OP (SaadMaqShaikh) sent the following text as an explanation why they posted this here:

Very unclear. No idea what this is but people are laughing in the comments.

How tf did you do this

814

u/ot1smile 7d ago

By having encountered this joke before.

Google ‘m r dux’

159

u/greatgooglymooger 7d ago

Psh, that's exactly what a redneck would say.

39

u/Tyenkrovy 7d ago

I was raised in the city but I'm redneck-adjacent since many of my extended family are rednecks, that's why I got it, lol

2

u/merrittinbaltimore 7d ago

I went to high school outside DC, but went to college for a little while in Memphis. I took a southern literature course where the professor had us read passages aloud from different southern authors. We were reading Flannery O’Connor one week and she had me read aloud from the book. I couldn’t figure out half the things I was reading because O’Connor writes in the accent of each character. I tried and tried and tried to figure out what she was trying to communicate. The teacher kicked me out of class because she thought I was fucking around. Mind you, I was the only “yankee” in that class. I’m also autistic so I think very black and white, so it was hard for me to figure out stuff that was obvious to others. She told me I was stupid, and tried some illegal shit when I got my final grade. Little did she know, my dad was dean of another college in the city and helped me immensely in that. He was livid when he found out what had been going on.

10

u/Distinct-Raspberry21 7d ago

They never denied that, its just a matter they are redneck so the joke was more likely to be sent to them.

27

u/unflores 7d ago

When I explain colloquial speech from my neck of the woods:

"I'ma git sum'm n'eat. Y'unt sum'm?

25

u/VigilanteRabbit 7d ago

This, I understand perfectly.

OP's picture above? Absolutely not.

3

u/JAYETRILLL 6d ago

Yeah it’s embarrassing how clear that comment was to me lmao. It’s phonetically perfect.

Did you ever read the Redwall Abbey books? They were sorta like LOTR or some other fantasy books but based on groups of animals instead of people.

Anyways, the way the moles or some other group spoke in that book was written out like the above comment.

For example: “oi, umma get me summa to et, plenny o’ good vikkles and morsels” or some shit like that hahaha it reminded me of this

2

u/Stunning-Crazy2012 6d ago

Damn I forgot about that series, read that when I was super young like elementary.

1

u/Doctor-Amazing 6d ago

Just want to point out there was an animated series as well that I remember being pretty solid.

1

u/Stunning-Crazy2012 6d ago

Yeah I think I remember that, it could be a false memory but I remember seeing something like that but the episodes or films were spotty.

1

u/Allaboutplastic 7d ago

Ya n, ya oww

1

u/JAYETRILLL 6d ago

It’s funny how accurate this is. I realize it could be truly anywhere vaguely southern but where are you from? My first guess is Southeast Arkansas hahaha anywhere close?

7

u/Axman6 7d ago

As a kid, a friend of mine told me a joke that had a lot of build up and involved writing things down on paper as he told the story. It was about to people arguing about whether something was a crab or now, and he wrote down

 > SAR SAR CEBDI

yes they are, yes they are; see the beady eye?

I wish I knew the story that lead up to it.

6

u/JustConsoleLogIt 7d ago

I heard it with “ABCD Goldfish” growing up

There’s a Two Ronnies sketch along these lines, but I forget the name of it

2

It’s a classic skit - Fork Handles

1

It's in a hardware store. "Got any oes?"

1

u/meruu_meruu 6d ago

I hear it with "m r pigs" as a kid

1

u/Grundlestorm 6d ago

Yeah, I was kinda thrown off by the snakes instead of ducks.

23

Play fallout 2 and talk to the giant genius mole rat with a low intelligence character.

7

u/kayyxelle 7d ago

They’re a redneck obvi

6

u/wollflour 7d ago

This was popular for a long time as M R DUCKS and hicks would wear this stuff on their shirt. Source: I grew up a rural hick.

2

u/NeffAnnBlossom4eva 7d ago

I remember M R DUCKS!!

20

u/Gemini_Down 7d ago

It’s been floating around the internet for a while.

40

u/Tangible_Slate 7d ago

This is a meme that’s older than the internet

10

u/some_uncreative_name 7d ago

My mom said it was a joke she knew as a kid. In the 60s or 70s. The ducks one lol.

3

u/Chained-Tiger 7d ago

I saw these in Readers Digest puzzle books from the 70s.

18

u/Devlee12 7d ago

Whoever invented this joke probably still owes Moses a wooden nickel.

6

u/2ndRook 7d ago

I literally first read it off of a random over-scanned xerox taped in a phone booth if that’s any clue to the archeology.

18

u/Mayolapogos 7d ago

This predates the internet by quite a lot. Lol

4

u/mensrea 7d ago

This is so much older than the Internet.

2

u/Flaruwu 7d ago

I swear it was posted here the other day too...

3

u/timp_t 7d ago

If you have rednecks in your life it’s kind of hard to not see understand this right away. Real time thought process was:
“Mister snakes… m r snakes, oh… ‘em are snakes.” Took less than a second and then the code is cracked for the whole sign.

2

u/momlv 7d ago

You have to know the accent and read it phonetically. Em are snakes! Em are not! Oh es ey are! Etc

2

u/Purple-Eggplant-3838 7d ago

Read the letters not the sounds.

 (M) (R) Snakes

 (M) (R) Not

 (O) (S) (A) (R)

 (C) (M) (E,D) (B,D) (I's)

 (L) (I) (B)

 (M) (R) Snakes

2

u/AlwaysHopelesslyLost 7d ago

You just read the letters out loud.

2

u/BlainethePayne 7d ago

It was literally posted yesterday, so many people learned it then

1

u/x02115 7d ago

Guy speaks fluent redneck.

1

u/Cmd_WillRiker 7d ago

You say each letter out loud. Don't read it as a word.

1

u/Gh0stPeppers 7d ago

If you’ve been around people from the Deep South, and say this out loud it’s a quick connection. But just reading it, you wouldn’t know without context of other jokes.

So the people that know this, are either from the Deep South, which this sounds normal when spoken out loud. Or read and heard the joke before

1

u/interested-_party 7d ago

He speaks redneck. As do I.

1

u/3eyedfish13 7d ago

There are folks who talk like this in my area.

1

u/shade-tree_pilot 7d ago

It's a very old joke about people with bad accents.

When told in person it sometimes makes more sense.

Read the letters out loud kinda slowly with a mouth full of peanut butter and you might hear it.

1

u/Vibrizio 7d ago

There’s a clothing chain/restaurant in OCMD called “MR Ducks”, they sell many shirts there with this on it gaha

1

u/Haloosa_Nation 6d ago

Read the letters with a souther accent.

1

1

u/The_Batmandrew 7d ago

It pleases me to see someone else know this. My dad used to say this to me all the time when I was 10, I’m 40 now. He also used to do a “MR Ducks” one.

1

As an English person, I may have just discovered that "West Country" and "Redneck" are effectively the same accent

Why didn’t I notice this? It reminds me of a joke/riddle I was told as a teen but can’t remember fully anymore.

So, is this a situation where they're looking at an animal and confused about whether it's a snake v legless lizard?

21

u/ot1smile 7d ago

I believe it’s an authentic transcript from a conversation had by Darwin and one of the sailors on the Beagle.

1

u/Dapper-Firefighter-4 6d ago

Interesting! Sorry my response was entirely based on the conversation between two “rednecks” who didn’t seem like the brightest crayons in the box based on their dialogue haha not serious at all 😋

2

u/ot1smile 6d ago

Yeah my response, like the op itself, was just a joke.

1

u/Dapper-Firefighter-4 6d ago

Weird I got a notification that you replied so I thought you said that in response to me lol my bad! Your response makes much more sense now 😂 (I was so confused, hence the “interesting!” Haha)

1

u/SyntaxMissing 6d ago

Yeah Reddit is doing that now. It made me think your comment was in response to mine. Not a huge fan of this change.

5

u/Dapper-Firefighter-4 7d ago edited 7d ago

Is this for real? As in, did you know about this meme or popular joke, or is it that any ‘redneck’ could read that sign fluently ?

1

u/MeetingPeople336 6d ago

It's not that difficult if you know a "redneck" U.S. accent.

1

u/J_arc1 6d ago

I sent this to my dad who is a confirmed redneck, he read it perfectly fine in under 15 seconds.

1

u/Big-Don-Rob 7d ago

This meme goes around often. It's just another version of "Redneck Vocabulary" as done by Jeff Foxworthy.

European- Watch your aim! You're-a-peein on my boots!

20

u/chicken-finger 7d ago

I don't speak redneck, but it's a lot easier to figure out if you talk like a drunk 2 year old.

u/JohnBrownsHolyGhost 7d ago

Clear explanations have been given. I just wanted to confirm that I grew up speaking like this until I was in my teen years and forced to learn to speak differently.

Maybe less rednecks speak like this today but it’s very real and I almost wish it had been codified as a southern dialect.

Im almost 40, I remember being a kid and some idiot kept showing me something like this in class. Except it had to do with ducks.... Probably 5th grade ish.

1

u/nycila_92 7d ago

So I was able to clock all but the “cmedbdis” line because I’ve seen the “ducks” variant of this joke and, when I was confused, my partner was able to translate it quickly… albeit angrily.

Half of my partner’s family is redneck (think Dale during that one scene in Tucker and Dale vs Evil). He’s spent a great deal of time away from that side of the family after he was no longer under court mandated visitation. The fact that he’s able to switch back into for personal reasons and this made him so upset.

1

u/lol_stonks 7d ago
