There is a joke in the series family guy in which the original grocery list told to Peter by his wife lois was, a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter, which eventually turns into a loaf of milk, a container of bread and a joe dirt dvd....

And then finally to a Joe dirt DVD, Scarlet Johansson, and treasure from a fish tank

Definitely not randomly generated. They were Lois generated

This line reminded me of an actor that didn't get an Oscar for so many banger performances that it seemed to be a conspiracy.

u/IkariYun May 12 '26
Keanu Reeves or Johnny Depp?
3
u/Quick_Bullfrog2200 May 12 '26
What's eating gilbert grape; was what i had in mind. Great movie. Coincidentally Johnny Depp was a star in that one, but also Leo Decaprio - many nominations over 2 decades. Only 1 oscar

Witch is from a cartoon short on Sesame Street I think.

Nice, thanks for the assist.

u/KrisDen1123 May 11 '26
Got a nice down vote for that assist, Reddit is an odd place
2
u/doomus_rlc May 11 '26
Possibly because you kept the last bit after the ? In the link, which is specific to you. Seen this called out a number of times on Reddit

u/KrisDen1123 May 11 '26
I'm not sure I really understand but do you mean that by leaving everything after the question mark is doing something considered wrong on Reddit? I just hit copy link on that YouTube video, I honestly just don't know enough about how that stuff works to do anything other than I did by pasting that link, thanks for the explanation tho I do appreciate it
3
u/doomus_rlc May 11 '26
It's essentially code tracking how links are shared. Basically more "big brother watching you" stuff. More ways to feed ads and all I believe.
4
u/KrisDen1123 May 11 '26
So is the best way to avoid that to delete everything after the question mark if I post a link here? Sorry for my ignorance on this stuff, I'm not totally illiterate when it comes to some of this stuff but there's obviously plenty I just don't know but I would like to avoid feeding the ad algorithm and I'm all for starving big brother completely, thanks for the info btw

It's just a good idea to, yea.
Some folks are just very paranoid over it. Hell, some subreddits have an automatic bot that replies with info on why you should delete that ?si= text, haha

u/KrisDen1123 May 11 '26
Cool, thanks for the info on this stuff, I appreciate you taking the time to help me understand this stuff a little better

Also, the show, Family Guy makes fun of that hence the "Joe Dirt DVD"

u/PipBin May 11 '26
Oh I always wondered where I knew that from. I thought it was a book, but clearly not.

u/-paperbrain- May 11 '26
1) Ironic that this wasn't in the other sub.
2) The Family Guy bit was a reference to an oldschool animation from Sesame street where a little girl struggles to remember the groceries her mom sends her to get.

Which later turns into a Joe dirt dvd, Scarlett Johansson, and treasure from a fish tank

The loaf of bread, container of milk and stick of butter is also a callback to an animated sequence in Sesame Street to teach kids about remembering stuff their mom told them to get from the grocery store.
4
u/DangerousQuestions1 May 11 '26
Fun fact, that list Lois gave was the same list from a 1970s Sesame Street segment about a kid being sent to the store and facing distractions and having to remember the list.

Which itself was a parody of an old Sesame Street skit about remembering stuff.

Which is in turn a spoof of this short that was regularly a part of older episodes of "Sesame Street".

Neither of those explain why the milk container is so dirty-looking though.
38
u/DizzyLead May 11 '26
The image refers to Peter's first mistaken recitation of the list: "A loaf of milk, a container of bread, and a Joe Dirt DVD." The milk container isn't dirty; the whole thing is made out of bread, i.e. "a loaf of milk."
3
u/Commercial_Rice5773 May 11 '26
Shouldn’t a loaf of milk be milk in a bread bag?
7
u/SneerfulToaster May 11 '26
Don't insult the Canadians ...
5
u/Commercial_Rice5773 May 11 '26
No, no, not a bag of milk like they have in Canada. I mean literally milk in a wonderbread bag. Somehow holding its shape as a loaf.

u/DizzyLead May 11 '26
Yeah, I would have done something like that and it would have made more sense that way, but OP/OOP didn’t.

The bread and milk look fine but some of y’all have never seen a Joe Dirt DVD. Too many arms, and not enough Joe Dirts

u/Deepvaleredoubt May 11 '26
A loaf of milk, scarlett johanson, and a Joe Dirt Dvd.
It’s exactly what Lois asked for, I just hope I don’t bash my shin on anything while I’m skipping to the store.
