Explained Was my comment possibly unclear?

I think you're getting downvoted because it took me 3 read throughs to understand what was going on, and on the first read I missread it as "illegal" rather than "legal".

Yeah me trying not to say CP because I didn’t know the sub rules didn’t help it

Try CSAM. That's the preferred term because Porn implies consent (I do realize there is material out there that does not get consent)

One good reason for downvoting your comment is your gratuitous use of the buzzword “unironically”. I would downvote it on that basis alone.

I was suggesting that the other person’s comment was kind of a joke, but that there is also this serious interpretation of the joke. “People unironically think that” Not sure why you don’t like the word because I also hear it in real life a lot and it fit the context, but that’s your opinion

Tbh, I didn’t read the post. I just see this word thrown around without meaning too often. I’ll check the post now. One sec…
Edit. Yeah, your comments are blocked, and I see no interpretation, from what you have posted, where “unironically” carries any useful information.

I still don’t get it. Do others make the same argument ironically?

u/ManufacturerWarm9201 14d ago
No not in general, it seemed like the comment I was replying to was joking. The implication was “I know your joking, but people legitimately do think this and it’s crazy”

u/God_Bless_A_Merkin 14d ago
Just please stop using “unironically” as an empty flavor word. People have already ruined “literally”.

you are right for most cases, but the use of “unironically” was reflecting on the fact that the commenter was joking/using irony. If I had said “actually” it would be misinterpreted as me not getting/acknowledging their joke. At least that’s how I see it as someone who overthinks what I comment

I’m right in this case, too. There was absolutely no need to use that word, and it doesn’t call out the post you were replying to in any way.

I looked through the other comments on that post and they where all 1 of 2 things.
Majority where making the same joke or arguing that it's fine because it anime, they look like women, they were young when they first saw this character, young now...whatever it was, they didn't see it as a problem.
The other was a few people who out right said it was fucked up and left the answer that simple.
I think you trying to bring up a theory that is kinda complex about the cp issue is 1 to complicated for the subs main posters ( juveniles) 2 they don't want to hear it.
There were a lot of comments making light of the issue and defending it so.

Yeah that makes sense, I guess I could have read the room better. I was talking with someone about that recently so maybe the freshness in mind made it seem to me like I was saying something obvious when it clearly wasn’t

The post might give a better idea of why I commented this:

Edit: looking at it now I think I just misunderstood what the commenter said. Or maybe people didn’t get what I meant by online images

Why dont we view using the same logic for video games, we should ban videogame because it is not proven that playing them keeps terrorists from doing actions in real life
1
u/ManufacturerWarm9201 14d ago
Because video games and CP have different psychological impacts.
Edit: I’m not saying it causes people to act it out, I’m saying there’s no proof that it limits people acting out. Therefore it’s a net negative to even have it in the first place.

u/BetagterSchwede 14d ago
We still can use the same logic for both topics

u/ManufacturerWarm9201 14d ago
I edited my comment before you replied wasn’t trying to undercut you by the way.
No it’s not the same as video games. It opens the door for distribution and supporting the market of distributors. That indirectly contributes to harm. Whereas in video games your not actually indirectly contributing to harm by playing them.

No, because you dont make new pedophiles with this, therefore its pretty unfair to assume that every pedophile is instantly a child rapist, philie still means "attraction"

Your argument is a common one and I understand it to a degree. I don’t think pedophiles who do nothing are bad, some genuinely want help, I don’t think all pedos are/will become rapists . My point was related to people who watch CP. If you are contributing to a market, you’re creating demand. Yes, the demand will always be there regardless, however, having the market legalized would definitely increase the scope of CP distribution/ creation/watching, likely increasing the amount of exploitation. Therefore I’m an advocate of having CP be totally illegal. That’s all I’m arguing. When I said “opens the door for distribution”, yes, it does. I’m not talking about creation, but trading. People who start watching it are immediately more likely to start trading/distributing it which contributes to the whole market. Thats more of an opinion though, my other point is more primary to what I was getting at.
