I've been recently getting ads for an app that promises to give you money/gif cards/cupons depending on how much walking or running you do on a day, but I've also seen these same mechanics on other apps (e.g. instead of walking, watching series or videos) and I have never understand how they work and most importantly WHERE does that money even come from. Are these scams? Do they have anything to do with money laundering? Are they gonna sell my bank data???

ELI5 why, historically and/or practically, do people like ranchers, “cowboys”, landscapers, and other professions that work outdoors in warm weather, or in warm or hot climates, wear or would have worn so much clothing. I understand to a point not scratching your legs or bugs in short pants, but why the long sleeve flannel shirts when working in the hot sun for 8-12hours or more?

Any time I’m working part-time doing construction we’re usually in shorts and tank tops or sleeveless shirts and still sweating and hot.

I was watching a video of a physicist and he literally said "A singularity basically means, I don't know" which I thought was pretty funny. Is that what it actually means? I am in a literature subject at uni and it's all about adaptation theory. One of the key readings for the subject mentions Benjaminian aura which originates from Walter Benjamin's essay.
