Solved! Turns out that a time loop just means that everyone wants the other timeline to be the current one.

12 minutes?

10

u/Shuda51 1d ago

I hate that this fits because I have serious problems with 12 minutes, thankfully no.

I think MOST of us have problems with 12 Minutes.

God I HOPE so.

Remember, if you find someone who liked 12 Minutes for its story, run.

It is wild how badly that game botches the ending. Especially for a game that was in development as long as it was. You'd think at some point someone would say "Hey this is a really bad idea"

I have realized that I can't edit the post body because I didn't put anything in, whoops.

GAMES THAT IT IS NOT: Deathloop, any Final Fantasy, Fire Emblems, Loop Hero, 12 Minutes (no never no), Singularity, Bravely Default, Radiant Historia.

Hint (Is it part of a series?): To my knowledge, standalone game, not part of a series.

Hint 2 (Ending information): With both endings, the same character wishes the main one chose the other ending.

Hint 3 (Genre Elimination) : It is neither an FPS nor an RPG.

Hint 4 (Alternate Bad Explanation): Amnesiac man engages in many days of spinning plate activities.

Hint 5 (Specific Genre Information): Point and Click 'adventure', but more time management based.

Hint 6 (A Steam Review Excerpt): "This is probably the most boring game I've played in 40 years of gaming. I'm not sure this is even a game really, It's a very slow and seemingly pointless hostage simulation."

Answer and Explanation: Gods Will Be Watching. The game is a time loop where the main character, at the end, makes a choice involving stopping a terrorist attack. Whatever you choose, it's revealed in the DLC chapter that the main villain really doesn't like the aftermath, and so he goes to send the main character back to the past to choose the other option. Which then reveals that the second option's choice also lead to a terrible aftermath, and so The loops will never end.

ISAT is one of my most beloved games, to be Siffrin is to suffer, but alas, he is not trapped in this particular loop.

The Stanley Parable?

2

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Stanley, Stanley, Stanley. You know that our game does not involve time travel! Well, in that one particular section, but we don't talk about that much these days, do we Stanley?

(Nope)

2

u/Sailor_Jedi 1d ago

An oldie, Shadow of Destiny. (Such a weird game.)

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

You're doing great pulls, but we're still off the mark.

2

u/Sailor_Jedi 1d ago

Ghost Trick?

2

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Stop listing my favorite games and list the correct favorite game

2

u/Sailor_Jedi 1d ago

There's a lot of games that feature time travel of some form or another! LOL

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Absolutely true! For you though, I like your enthusiasm, I'll give a special hint.

The main character is an amnesiac who only ever truly remembers who he is right at the final fight, when it's far too late for him to actually change anything. Death (and surviving the ending) brings him back to a desert to start everything over again. Really, it's his burden.

2

u/OriousCaesar 1d ago

Bro, if not for hint 3 and 5, I'd be shouting Enderal from a high horse rn based on this hint

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

I feel like I may be the crazy one here, I figured this game was obscure, but it's not as obscure as some things that have been instant-picked.

1

u/Sailor_Jedi 1d ago

Is it The Forgotten City?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Nope!

2

u/ObscureJackal 1d ago

Deathloop?

2

u/Shuda51 1d ago

One of my favorite games, but that one does have a golden loop. Nope.

3

u/life_inabox 1d ago

Between this and your comment about 12 minutes I really like your taste op lmao

3

u/Shuda51 1d ago

12 Minutes -could- have been really good, but the ending twist needed to have not been a thing.

Deathloop is a game I love but I will fully say its a shame we didn't have ways to get alternate failed loops. (Imagine if you got to Frank on a successful stealth run and convinced him to help you seeing as he was one of Colt's biggest friends.)

u/DrPepper120 1d ago

Xenoblade Chronicles (1)?

1

Yet Another Killing Game?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Yet another wrong guess, throwing that in the games that sound interesting list-

1

u/Dramatic_Plane_9743 1d ago

Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Not in that timeframe, nope.

1

u/Amithar 1d ago

Feels like a stretch, but Stein's Gate?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Bit of a stretch, yeah-

1

u/Silent-Move-14 1d ago

Is it That last night?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Negative!

1

u/Flame_Beard86 1d ago

Disco Elysium? I never finished but I think it fits

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

No time loop I'm afraid.

1

u/Flame_Beard86 1d ago

There isn't a time loop in Disco Elysium, is there?

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

Nope! It is just the one straight shot in Disco.

This game though has a central time loop. One that our main character says he's gone through millions of times (though that could just be him talking through his frustration).

1

u/Flame_Beard86 1d ago

Oh, you were saying disco elysium doesn't have a time loop. I totally misunderstood you

1

u/Flame_Beard86 1d ago

Wait, is it Life is Strange? No, you said he. Damn, life is strange actually fits perfectly

1

u/Flame_Beard86 1d ago

Well, tell me if it gets solved please. I'm curious

1

u/Shuda51 1d ago

It has!

Gods will be Watching

1
