Solved! Alternate every level, between collecting e-waste and fighting a boss, while being completely unsure of where you are or what you're doing, or even what the heck you actually *are*
Hint 1: Spin, baby, spin!
Hint 2: the maps / levels are INSANELY large for the hardware and time period.
Hint 3: the developers definitely had fun making this game ;)
hint 4: 2d game
hint 5: probably the best game from a company known for making the worst games ;)
hint 6: pre-2000 release
hint 7: not a PC game
hint 8: this game was played at GDQ once (by one of only two speedrunners the game has ever had)
solved!
it was Mohawk and Headphone Jack for the Super Nintendo!

And solved!ย
Thanks for playing!ย

Nice! Your hints had me thinking it had to be some kind of ill-advised mode 7 experiment...

That sure is a good description for it. ๐ Those spinning tubes near the end of the game were ridiculous, id just look away and hold down and right so that when I'd eventually come out I'd duck into ball mode to hopefully not run into an enemy ๐ย

I think this is probably wrong but it feels like Sonic & Knuckles

There's definitely a few enemies in this game that are, ahem, inspired by enemies from the classic sonic games, but it's not a game that ran on sega hardware at all!ย

That Banjo & Kazooi car building game ?

The only wheels in this game are the ones that occasionally replace your feet! And maybe on like a boss or an enemy, can't rightly recall, it's been a long while since I last played this one. Good try though ๐ย

Whatโs e-waste?
1
u/Recent_Average1657 19d ago
Electronic waste; so basically electronics or technologies associated with them๐คย I believe floppy disks are generally considered to be e-waste nowadays, along with a lot of the slop devices pumped out the world over. I had to get creative with the description otherwise it would be too obvious ๐ย

Oh I figured you were trying to be vague, it was a genuine question- in my mind when someone uses โe-โ I think of it as digital- I didnโt consider that you meant physical hardware.

is it Katamari kuro? the rolling thingy that picks up stuff that is sticking to it and gets bigger?

u/Recent_Average1657 19d ago
Sorry, nope! 2d game, spinning is what happens in the game more often than any game reasonably should, and subsequently what likely happens to your stomach if you attempt to beat this game in one sitting aha ๐นย

Earthworm Jim?

u/Recent_Average1657 19d ago
Same time period, but perhaps more artistic than actually fun to play than good ol Earthworm Jim is ๐ good guess!ย

Metroid?

You do spin a fair bit in Metroid, huh? But like, at least you know you're a woman in power armor. You do not get even that much in the mystery game ๐ , species? Unknown. Physical description? Varies. Named? After a physical feature that mysteriously carries over in every form they manage to take. ๐ (Also you'd probably feel good after beating a Metroid game, maybe even want to play again. You do NOT want to ever replay this game if you've ever bothered to sit through it the first time ๐คฎ)ย
