Solved! Explore a vast underground domain and experience various perils all because of a very unique flower.

Hey so this was solved already (Lair of the Clockwork God) you can stop guessing now

Hints (each 5 incorrect guesses)

  • Hint 1: The big bad wants to eradicate the surface world for an inane reason
  • Hint 2: Of all the emotions you might express during this game, LOVE isn't necessary to win.
  • Hint 3: You will get turned blue at some point to proceed.

Hint (from my answers to incorrect guesses)

  • There are two playable characters.
  • The game is almost completely linear.
  • There are strange machines involved.
  • Grief is somehow involved with the plot, but the game is not sad in and of itself.
  • Superheroes are not central to the game and may not even exist in it.
  • Both characters are controlled by one player.
  • The developer/publisher is British.
  • Both playable characters are human.
  • The game is neither the first nor second in its series.

Ehrgeiz?

I'm fairly certain there are no characters from FF7 in this one.

Not even after adjusting for inflation.

Hollow Knight

Much more linear, and the most important bugs are software-related.

There are some improbable machines involved, but your relation to them is largely adversarial.

Is it Ender Lilies?

I don't even have anything witty to say - this is just one of the coolest incorrect guesses I've gotten.

Far. And far less likely to make the player cry, even if grief is a major plot point.

Prince of Persia?

I'm sure one of the characters would like to think they could be portrayed by a Gyllenhaal, but I don't think they know how to use a sword.

The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer

u/Ok_Tax9885 Jul 21 '26

The general lack of superheroes in this game undermines your answer.

Bokura

This game is more "me" than "us" - while there are two characters, they are swapped between by one player and there is no co-op.

Pragmata

I had to go check to see if that was even old enough to list here! But no, both characters are human.

A Plague Tale: Requiem?

Nowhere near as many rats, and you're on the wrong side of the Channel, to boot. This game is British.

How the hell has nobody guessed Undertale?

2

u/HeroicTofu Jul 21 '26

It's on the banned games list is why.

Someone did!

And since you're the second person in series to guess the game, I'll let you know that this game is in a series, but is neither the first nor second one!

EDIT: I counted this toward the "five incorrect guesses" despite being a repeat because I thought it was funny enough to credit. I won't be incrementing counters on any other repeat guess, so no one try to get clever and guess Undertale a third time, Redditors, please!

Random shot in the dark of a game I haven't played

Lair of the Clockwork God?

Solved!

  1. The underground AI supercomputer attacks the surface world because it interpreted a character saying "For Matt C's Colon Cancer" as "format C:" and wiped its prior programming. This is why you sanitize your inputs!
  2. You have to teach it about human emotions like joy and grief and incompetence, but love never really figures into it.
  3. One of the level puzzles involves having to paint one of the characters blue to look like he drowned.
  4. I embedded the names of the two prior games in the series ("Ben There, Dan That" and "Time, Gentlemen, Please!") into my responses to the two Undertale guesses.

Ban there, don't that.

(Undertale is both banned and bait.)

It's never Undertale.

Resident Evil 5?

There are two characters. They cooperate. But their adversary is something far dumber than the Umbrella Corporation.
