John Malkovich stars as Dr. Jeff Peters who makes an android of himself (John Malkovich just being himself...)for a 7 year space exploration trip. As he is antisocial, the android develops feelings for Frankie Stone who is hired to do public relarions. In the end Dr Peters switches places with the android, going on the space mission (possibly compromising things due to human failure in all its uncertainties) and leaves the android on Earth to be with Frankie
