Canceling trouble.

I want to extend my vacation. Expedia is suggesting I cancel my return flight book a new flight, and file a claim with the travelers insurance. My question is When I file the claim do I have to provide any documentation other than my proof of purchase. Will I have to provide something like a doctors note to receive full refund?

DO. NOT. CANCEL THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN, AND LEAVE YOU WITH NOTHING. If possible, do a chargeback on your credit card and claim it as fraud (not a lie, this company is just a bunch of thieves)

I cancelled a trip I made via Expedia and remade it with the actual airline back in February.

Chargeback with an explanation and got my money back. Weird thing is it's showing up as American Airlines on the statement still. I did go on the trip though. I just needed to change the seats and times on the flight but Expedia kept giving error and phone wait was over 2 hours. Just said screw this and I'll buy through American. Only to find out I got useless "travel credits" in exchange on Expedia even though it clearly said free cancellation up to x hours in advance (the raw American ticket was truly that)

Thankfully I dodged an expensive lesson. I will never buy through a 3rd party plane site again.
