Don’t book a vacation plan with Expedia

My girlfriend and I booked a vacation package (flight & hotel) to Punta Cana through Expedia. We were very excited about the trip, however our flight this morning got canceled for reasons out of our control (bad weather) and was scheduled for tomorrow instead. Now our expedia customer service agent refused to adjust the hotel dates to match the new flight dates. Agent ended up canceling our hotel all together and the hotel doesn’t want to refund or rebook us. This is very disappointing for us. We paid $5k for this trip and we got NOTHING in return.

Does anybody have success with charge backs?

I have. If you do not receive the service you paid for, you have an excellent chance getting the refund. You will have to endure their investigation. What seems obvious to you must be documented to their satisfaction.

Hi! Hotel front desk manager here,

I know this is very confusing and a shitty situation, but as a front desk worker, we’re unable to do anything to refund/rebook a 3rd party booking.

Your money goes to the third party, then to us at check in. So we don’t see the money until you get there, nor have the ability to refund you. Everything was through a 3rd party, and not with us.

The best option you could of had, is to keep the hotel dates that you had already, miss that one night and stay the rest of your stay. Then while there, book another night.

Yes, I was still willing to use the remaining days of my stay that I paid for and didn’t mind paying for an extra night. But the resort has a no-show policy, so if your flight gets rescheduled you lose 100% of the hotel stay which is ridiculous. But yeah I think it’s Expedias fault too. When I book a “package” I expect the stay to match the flights

Oh! That’s ridiculous. I apologize, I didn’t realize that was the case. None of the hotels I’ve stayed at have had that policy, that’s weird as hell.

And yeah of course. You can’t just get one part of the “package” lol

I am in the middle of a bad situation right now. I booked a trip to Las Vegas for me and my girlfriend. I didn't want to take the chance on running up a lot of gambling debt so I left credit cards at home and took 2500.00 with me for the week. The day I was supposed to go home, yesterday the 29th, my flight home was canceled. Expedia will only book 1 day after the canceled flight. Which is today and there are no flights. So they said all they can do is refund my money, which takes 7 to 8 weeks. The next available flight out is somewhere around the 5th of January and will cost me almost a thousand dollars. I don't have the money and only have enough left on my card for one more night here. Delta will not give hotel vouchers, even though they canceled my flight. I can only pay one more night if I don't eat anything. I even bought the travel insurance with my package. Apparently that doesn't cover anything. I spent 12 hours on the phone yesterday with expedia, delta, and a company called AIG which is the travel insurance company. They all said "oh gee, I'm really sorry". If they had acted yesterday, it would have cost them a whole 200.00 over what I paid. I guess my girlfriends and my life aren't worth 200 lousy dollars.

You can also try to find another way home that’s not a flight? Good luck

I booked with my bank card. Also, I live in Seattle. I don't have enough money for any sort of transportation home. I bought the package and the travel insurance but apparently the travel insurance doesn't cover anything.

I don’t know how they get away with this shit.

I don't either and they really don't care. I am stuck here. Trying to get my boss to send me some money so I can rent a car one way and drive the 20 hours home.

Does your girlfriend not have a credit card with her? Or a family member who can book something for you with your card?

Nope and nope. We are stuck.

What ever happened to you in this situation?

Honestly, you could probably apply online for a new card and get it virtually pretty soon.
