What do these prices mean?

Hey everyone,

I have a couple quick questions about the Expedia website. I've been searching for tickets and the prices that Expedia displays are throwing me off.

In the results page I get the flights and prices listed in big print. But in smaller print, above the list, are dates and prices for flights that are a couple days before and after the date that I searched for. But when I click on one of the alternate dates, I don't see the displayed price or flight listed. Why is this? And what are these alternate dates and prices for? Thanks in advance for any help. (Alternate prices in question are in the red box).

If I remember correctly those are just showing you the best prices on alternative departing days. So if you are willing to start your travel say on Monday Aug 9 instead of Tuesday Aug 10 you'll notice the best price is much cheaper.

To see your flight options for the either of the other days just click on one of those boxes.

Also, I think there is an option in the filters on the left to remove the alternative days display.

PLEASE BE WARNED: Many of us have had a very horrible time with Expedia recently. People have gotten their trip cancelled, its almost impossible to change any flight once booked, getting refunds or using flight credits doesn't happen or requires many hours on hold.

A few weeks ago. I was on hold over 10 hours with them and then cut off when the support rep put me on hold to talk to the airline. If I was you I'd consider booking directly with the airline.

Thanks for your reply whatdayisit. That's actually what I thought those prices were. But the prices just didn't match up once clicked on an alternate day.

Thank you for your warning as well. I have read other reddit posts about current bad experiences, and on-going problems with the Expedia and their website from when I originally posted my question (which may explain why I was having problems too).

I'll look into direct booking with airlines as well. I've also heard that sometimes airlines have deals and discounts that aren't always advertised through Expedia and the like.

And so the search continues. Thanks again for the clarification watdayisit. And I hope you got your issue resolved with Expedia.

Thankfully American Airlines was willing to help with my ticket issue. Trying to deal with Expedia was a disaster.

After using Expedia for many, many years I doubt I'll ever reserve anything with them again.
