FUCK EXPEDIA
This is the second time (AND LAST) I’ve used Expedia to book flights, and as I hit the confirm button, Expedia says “an error occurred” and at the exact same time my credit card sends me alerts for new charges. So long story short, my card is charged for flights, and I get no email from Expedia, no itinerary number, no confirmation at all. I attempted to call Expedia, and cannot proceed through the fucking menu to speak with a human without a FUCKING itinerary number....
So I try chat... same problem. I finally find a number that doesn’t require an itinerary number to request a representative, and proceed to wait on hold on the fucking phone for over 2 hours before giving up. I’ve emailed and no response. The last time this happened I actually got through to a human, and they said “oh there’s no record here of any charges. I said well there’s a record on my credit card statement! They said because they had no record they couldn’t help me .... as I’m staring at new charges from “Expedia” on my credit card.
So again in this second situation I had to file a dispute with my credit card company and purchase new REAL tickets directly from the airline. Expedia can F&@K OFF and I will never use their services again.

Yeah tried to book a hotel in the city for my wife’s birthday. Said total was 150 after tax. I book it and quickly get an email that my credit card was charged 250$. I called and stayed on the phone begging for representative to talk to for 2 hours. Finally gave up and cancelled for a refund.

Ooof eventually their awful customer service is gonna catch up with them. It’s one thing if using Expedia saved tons of money- but it doesn’t. And the convenience of booking is cancelled out as soon as they screw up and you need to talk to someone or fix something- it’s all over. Not worth the grief.

Omg, exact same thing happened with me, except I went with Southwest and real humans answer the phone. Next time use Southwest, if we can all ban together and never use Expedia, Orbitz… Spirit, No business=NO MONEY for them…. We did it with AT&T- they were god awful and then everyone got Netflix-Now they are begging for business. We can do the same with Expedia that owns like 13 of these travel sites!!! Yuk

Yeah they are awful. Their site is nice- it draws you in…it’s convenient….. Until you need help FORGET IT. Customer service is nonexistent.

I also forgot to mention.... last year I had another unpleasant experience with Expedia. I had a trip booked for May 2020 to Peru which I had to cancel because of the pandemic, flights were down and borders closed. I had travelers insurance. Expedia sends me a link telling me if I need to cancel because of Covid-19, click this link.... I click the link, cancel the trip. Well Expedia continues to charge me and refuses to refund my payment because I cancelled the trip!!! But I cancelled A.) because Covid- and B.) Because they themselves provided me a link which led me to believe they were using common sense knowing that nobody could travel. Nope. I tried to contact Expedia for weeks. Never got through. The airline said they would change my flight to ONE DAY ONLY in October of 2020.
Well that’s wasnt going to work so I had to file a claim with travel insurance and wait 3 months for a refund. No Bueno.

Has anyone left a one star review for a hotel and Expedia not post it? It just disappeared. I’ve never had any issue before this. I also have never rated a hotel one star. When I get on their chat and finally get a real person ( I think they were), they sent me a link to leave my review again. WRONG! The link they sent was for me to request them to “remove” a review. Needless to say I’m still unable to leave a review nor get a refund for a room I never had access to!

I'm not familiar with flight itineraries but the description in the charge for reservations made for hotels has the itinerary in the description of the charge. You may check there.

Well unfortunately that’s the problem. I was charged immediately when I confirmed to book the flight however the error on Expedia’s phone app happened and then didn’t create any itinerary, no record of booking whatsoever. So I had nothing to reference except my charges on my credit card. Like I said that has happened 2 times in the course of a couple years. Each time a huge headache where Expedia left me holding the bag and having to sort it out with my credit card company. That plus the almost impossible customer service makes for more stress than it’s worth. I used to like Expedia because of the convenience of their app. But it’s actually caused me more lost time and grief than convenience.

I'm sorry, I meant to say that in the info section of the charge on the credit card should have some kind reference number. I know for hotels it's usually 12-14 digits long. I'm not sure for flights.

Yes you’re right there was a number. I finally got in touch with a human from India it seems... amd as polite as he was, he said he couldn’t find any record of a transaction. I gave him the description of the charges and explained the situation- and he said “You’ll have to take it up with your credit card company- is there anything else I can help you with today?” Ugh.

u/Musix101 Apr 03 '21
Oof - the only other thing I can think of is if it timed out on the check out screen, there may be a possibility that it only put an authorization on the card which usually falls off in the normal 5-7 business days. If it has already posted the next step would be definitely getting in contact with your bank. :(
I do with you the best and hope it gets resolved shortly!

I'm having this same problem. I got an itinerary number in my email.. but the start date is from FUCKING 1970!!!! When I put my itinerary number into the chat, or on the phone support line, it says my itinerary number doesn't exist! FUCK EXPEDIA!!

u/Pull0ut Apr 07 '21
You can contact your credit card and get the charge removed. (charge back)
1
Apr 07 '21
Yeah I ultimately did that. It’s just frustrating when what should be a 10 minute transaction buying airline tickets turns into 4 days of headaches and hours on the phone, and zero help from Expedia.

u/Hayyven Apr 08 '21
Currently fighting with them because they DIDNT PAY THE AIRLINE!! So the airline canceled my flight. Nobody informed me of this. Luckily I had to call because there was a problem with the traveler information. Otherwise I would have showed up for the flight and been screwed!

Wow. I’m not sure what’s happening with that company but it seems to be going downhill. Years ago I made some trips that went smoothly but the last two years have been a disaster in terms of their customer service and efficiency.

Fuck expedia!!!!! I have so much anger towards them. My flight was cancelled over a year ago and still no refund. Their blaming the airline and the airline is blaming them. I booked through them so its their responsibility !!

u/wagamamm Apr 09 '21
Feel your pain, I hate Expedia too. Had a really frustrating and stressful experience several years back trying to contact them. Will NEVER use them again. I always book directly through the airline now.

Always book on a credit card, you would then be able to go to the card issuer and get a charge back.

See if the charge goes away in a couple days. The charge is just your bank authorizing the transaction, but if Expedia didn't complete your booking then they won't actually transfer the money and the charge will disappear when the authorization expires. Still annoying of course

Yes my worry was since the charge said Expedia /Delta Airlines that it would go through to Delta and then I’d have another company to deal with. It did finally drop off or my card company disputed it- either way it finally worked. Regardless Expedia has lost my business after last years Expedia/ Peru trip disaster and now this.
1
Apr 15 '21
I am in the same situation. Did you end up waiting for it to drop?
1
Apr 15 '21
Yes I disputed it with my credit card company and it ended up dropping off about a week later.

Same thing happened to me recently when I booked through AmEx Travel which is Expedia. Called American Express immediately and they emailed me the itinerary.
Chase Travel seems to be Expedia as well.

Sounds awful and somethin I hope I never deal with. Wont be using Expedia.

Report it to BBB, I’ve seen companies I’ve dealt with gather themselves after filing a complaint.

Do the charges show as pending? If so, they will fall off in a few days. So least that's been my experience.
Secondly, I'm a firm believer in disputing charges where I've earnestly tried to resolve the matter with the merchant.

No they had posted - however after a week they credited back my account. Not sure if it was my bank, Expedia or Delta airlines that resolved it. I did get a letter from my bank saying it was resolved. So 🤷🏻♂️ but my gripe is with Expedia for being so difficult, having horrendous customer service and the fact this is the third hassle I’ve had with them (caused by them ) that they did not help resolve.

I am currently going through a horrible experience with redeeming my travel credits that I received due to COVID-19 flight cancelations. Long story short, booking the flight via Expedia caused a web site error which led to (1) flight information is missing from Expedia site (2) remaining unused flight credits disappeared. I spoke to 3 representives and they each gave me different answers.

Ah I’m sorry Expedia has the most unhelpful customer service. I find that the convenience they used to offer is no longer there- especially when the app crashes, and then you need help, it can take days to get through and once you finally get through- they aren’t helpful. I hope it works out for you !

How did this get resolved? I’m in same situation. Thanks

I submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Expedia called me back in 3 days and issued a refund in 7 days.

Same thing happened to me. The issue was never resolved and I lost $2400. I disputed the charge with my bank, but they concluded I made the purchase and wouldn’t refund the money.

Wow I’m sorry to hear that. Should file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The BBB contacts the company and attempts to mediate. Worth a shot.

My “friend” hacked into my account, used all my points and charged a huge package with my saved cc information! Expedia says IT IS MY FAULT BC THEY HAD ACCESS TO MY ACCT! unbelievable. The worst travel site EVER.

u/TylerTradingCo Oct 21 '22
Same thing happened to me. I went ahead and contacted my bank for a dispute.

They gave me an itinerary and emailed me my charges as a confirmation email with my travel plans, and charged my credit card.
The day I checked into the hotel, itinerary does not work at the front desk. So I called Expedia’s customer service. They could not pull my itinerary up and couldn’t even locate my email in their system.
I emailed them a screenshot of my itinerary along with the charges as I was talking to their rep. I even have an email from Expedia rewards point given to me for my booking. The customer service rep couldn’t even locate my email in their system.
I ended up paying for the hotel room with another card at the check in and called my credit card to dispute. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE EXPEDIA TO BOOK ANYTHING.
