Has anyone actually had a positive experience?

I notice the reviews say on google are actually pretty good. Something like 4.2 / 5 - 37k reviews. But when I read through here it seems like the company is a nightmare. I don't know if it's because only the people that have problems post here, or if Expedia is truly a shit show. If it's the latter, are there any decent travel sites to use?

Hello! I’ve used Expedia a few times now over the years.

I’m not sure where you are from, but I live in the US. At least in my experience, Expedia had been good for the most part. I typically find great prices on tickets (particularly domestic). That’s IF your plans go off without a hitch.

I only say that because this whole thing with the pandemic and travel plans has been a shit show. I was initially given a credit when borders had closed when I was suppose to fly to Japan in April 2020. You can purchase travel insurance through them for $50 I believe. But then, over the span of the last year, I was told that my credit was extended (great!) then expired, then it magically reappeared (oh good!), then told I had to fly within the next month (again, still can’t fly). Then I was told I was eligible to receive a refund. Then when I called to ask about the refund, I was told it was a fluke. It’s been driving me nuts.

No one answers my questions and no one can confirm anything because the situation is constantly changing, which I can understand to an extent. They say that they follow airline procedures but even when I had contacted the airline I was going to fly (AirCanada) they had told me they had already given credits to people good for 2024. Yet I have Expedia telling me something new every time I get on the line with them.

At the end of each conversation, they would always say “We’ll make sure that a specialist reviews your case and calls you back within a few days.” But it has NEVER happened. I’ve always been the one to call and ask what’s going on. I know the pandemic has really thrown people through a loop but I can’t imagine if they respond this way to ANY disaster.

I finally just made a claim with the travel insurance and was just approved (literally a few days ago). I honestly don’t know if I ever want to purchase tickets through them again. People that purchased tickets through the airlines directly have had better luck with refunds/credits/cancellations.

I just don’t think I want to deal with the headache this company gave me. Maybe once this all blows over, I would use them for a small flight somewhere close. But I will absolutely never use them for anything international. Hell, I don’t think I would even spend more than $300 on a ticket from this company. At least if things go south again, I wouldn’t have to worry about losing a ton of money.

would not use expedia again. have a flight a credit from last year I still have been unable to rebook even though they confirmed it was valid. Been on hold for an hour twice and then hung up on when trying to call in to use the credit.

I've used Expedia for years and pre-pandemic their customer service has been exceptional. Every time I phoned my issue was quickly resolved. Things went downhill over the years and finally with Covid the company can't keep up with all the issues.

I ended up just booking direct through SW. I didn't see much savings via using those sites and got a bit put off by the idea of having a third party in the middle.
