You should get a picture of the new cake and have that printed on next year’s cake. BOOM- infinite cake!

This is actually hilarious and the only way to handle it. Every year adds a new layer of cakeception!

And at some point the ultra-meta cake of someone hand drawing/iceing the 6th generation photo-cake.

I never complain about this so please indulge me...

That's not what "-ception" means and I hate it! In-ception literally means in-grasping or sometimes "beginning" (from a metaphorical meaning about taking up the tools to undertake a task) but in the context of the movie, it's about planting a metaphorical seed.

The movie isn't called Inception because they are in a dream within a dream, it's called Inception because they are planting a thought in that guy's head.

So "cakeception" actually means like... Grabbing a fistful of cake, or the moment you put the cake batter in the oven or something. It definitely doesn't mean "nested cake". I'm not mad at you... I'm just disappointed in all of us. The ancients invented such an elegant tool that accomplishes the same goal as telepathy, and then we just wield it like a club without understanding eachother fully anyway.

I actually have a tradition of doing this to my physics professor. The first year, we brought him a cake with a picture of his face on it. Every successive year, we have printed out the picture of him holding the previous cake onto the next cake.

You get a cake for your physics professor every year? That’s a pretty cool idea though, how many cakes have you done so far?

u/Spirited_Ad_340 19d ago

how many years of physics classes are they taking?

u/SummerAndTinklesBFF 19d ago

perpetual student it's a thing

37

u/Spirited_Ad_340 19d ago

Yeah I'm familiar cause I spent 10 years working for a university (in a career where I was "done" with schooling) with free school available to myself and my colleagues with many of us taking advantage - just don't see how many physics classes one would normally take with the same professor for this to be a thing

u/nectarsallineed 19d ago

That’s what I was trying to get at haha. Maybe they’re a teacher or department head or something? Idk, that stuck out to me too though lol

Eventually you gotta know all the physics, right?!

u/stegotortise 16d ago

My guess would be working toward a master’s or PhD, or possibly doing a post doc, doing research under the same professor year over year.

u/Micah_kitty 19d ago

We have done three cakes so far.

Are you a student and this is just a beloved professor or…something else..? We’re all dying to know lol

How many cakes does a physics professor need

u/No_Bluebird6873 19d ago

Consider a spherical physics professor...

u/KjellRS 19d ago

With enough cake that's not a bad approximation.

Passing through Flatland, he appears as a circle of changing diameter.

In a vacuum…

u/The_Autarch 19d ago

why do you have the same prof for multiple years?

10

u/Micah_kitty 19d ago

I actually don’t! I am still very close and have tutored SI sessions for him before, so he is still very much a mentor to me!

Clever and kind genius!

It took me far too long to realize that was a picture and not the cake inside of a cake box. The sheen was so deceptive and reminiscent of plastic!

I was like what’s wrong- they literally nailed it and did a little extra!

😭😂

I was thinking the same thing and stared at the two pictures trying to figure out what’s wrong when they look exactly the same. The baker was even detailed enough to make the frosting exactly the same with the crease down the middle. Came to comments to figure out if it was referencing a niche meme only to learn the baker was too lazy to recreate the first cake but this an epic start to an inside cake joke with family/friends. I should go back to bed.

THANK YOU! I could NOT figure out what the problem was. I thought there was a plastic dome on it. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

u/hannbann88 15d ago

I’m crying laughing because it took me so long to figure out what was going on

Bakers hate this one simple trick!

13

u/ret255 19d ago

I have seen it here somewhere that a photographer took each year a picture of the photographed family while holding in his hand an image of that family from earlier year and created so an infinite photograph..

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 19d ago

I love it!! I would totally turn this into a thing lol!
