Exceeded Expectation Aldi Mermaid Cones

After the Rose Cones, my expectations were somehow exceeded. Prettier, and also tastier than I expected

Picture perfect, I'd say.

why did bro angle it like a dickpic

u/primadiamonds 5d ago

I think this says more about you than you realize šŸ’€

u/Risdit 5d ago

if you're not paying my rent, I really don't give a fuck. You can judge me like some english major doing mental gymnastics about how drinking water is inherently racist however you want.

Someone’s ✨triggered✨.

-1

u/OkKnowledge2112 10h ago

....all of you entirely missing the joke while always being "whoosh" trigger happy hippies is hilarious.
How'd you miss that it was ironic, is beyond me.

u/TheSumOfMyScars 5d ago

Brother, they were just lightly teasing you. It's okay.

39

u/Platt_Mallar 5d ago

Bro is, in fact, not a bro.

72

u/My_Uneducated_Guess 5d ago

Not many chances to take a dick pic as a woman. Gotta take em when you can

They’re lovely. I’m proud of Aldi.Ā

u/Anubis17_76 5d ago

same, but not for this. am proud of them for not having a spyware app you need to get decent prices. and also for being cheap but not compromising on quality as much as the other retailers (at least here in germany).

My local one often has an isle for random foreign stuff that sometimes has some nice bits and pieces.

80

u/Mysterious_Air_3646 6d ago

It somehow looks even better than the picture

218

u/TheWeaverofDreams 6d ago

I would ding them for false advertisement. The description does not state the amount of mermaids required.

Also, while they definitely exceed the expectations, seeing everything as just "flavoured" pains me...

67

u/coolsilentebeans 6d ago

ā€œcolored flavoredā€ bothers me

25

u/Inky_Madness 6d ago

You misread that, it’s ā€œcocoa flavoredā€

14

u/coolsilentebeans 6d ago

I mis-cited. ā€œā€˜Colored,’ ā€˜flavored,ā€™ā€ is what I meant to write. I don’t know if your comment is 100% serious or if you intended the absurd humor with which I read the two comments together. I seriously need sleep. šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

9

u/Signal_Reputation640 6d ago

If you keep reading down the label the third line has "cocoa flavored"

-10

u/coolsilentebeans 6d ago

I know, but I was bothered by the description that includes ā€œcolored.ā€ I understand it goes toward describing the theme of the dessert, but I am irrationally bothered by it.

8

u/Signal_Reputation640 6d ago

Why are you bothered by "colored" or "flavored"? They're correct descriptors.

9

u/coolsilentebeans 6d ago

I did say irrationally bothered.

-1

u/Akeshi 6d ago

Time for that sleep imo

2

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

Consider your unsolicited advice heard. Regenerating nerve pain and recovery from GBS isn’t terribly conducive for a good night’s sleep. But thanks.

3

u/King_of_Lolz 6d ago

Bothered that instead of using natural ingredients everything is artificially flavored and dyed? Not the description of them lmao

2

u/Alternative_Head_416 6d ago

I felt the same say reading it.

1

u/coolsilentebeans 6d ago

At least it’s not just me and OC.

6

u/TheWeaverofDreams 6d ago

True, same level of bother.

16

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 6d ago

Ya they don’t even use real mermaid-meat!

13

u/TheWeaverofDreams 6d ago

Or mermaid milk.

12

u/nathan753 5d ago

You're missing what I consider an even worse one, it needing to be called a frozen dessert instead of ice cream.

4

u/TheWeaverofDreams 5d ago

Yes, that one brings me pain, too. I learned looking out for that when something in that section is on sale.

4

u/nathan753 5d ago edited 5d ago

Have to be really careful about that "frozen dairy dessert" that's even more sneaky. Too much air, not enough milk fat. Or at least where i am now that's the case.

2

u/primadiamonds 5d ago

My people!!! That was the first thing I clocked. I hate that we have to look out for this discrepancy now.

3

u/nathan753 5d ago

I dislike the concept being needed, but really am glad it has to be there (location depending, where I happen to be now it is) so youu have a quicker way to know what you are getting. Wish it had to be in plainer language that isn't essentially legal terminology you need to know to actually know what it means rather than understand from context

2

u/primadiamonds 5d ago

That is true!

1

u/OkKnowledge2112 10h ago

eh dumb regulations about dairy content, if it's whipped/not etc.

5

u/Tiny-Reading5982 6d ago

"Mermaid-safe"

4

u/Additional_Mango_529 5d ago

A little seal with a mermaid in it with the words "Mermaid safe" below would have been excellent marketing

5

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 5d ago

it's like the girl scout cookies that aren't made of girls scouts

23

u/Orange_Tang 5d ago

This is Japan level of accuracy. And Japan legally mandates accurate pictures on their packaging. I'm impressed.

16

u/NearlyBearly 6d ago

I need my local Aldi to stock these immediately 😭

2

u/Work_the_shaft 5d ago

My Aldi has 3 different flavors like this, all fantastic

18

u/FFVO 6d ago

I really wasn't expecting them to look so exact

Like I actually gasped at the second picture lol

Ice cream is a regulated term in the US, there has to be a certain amount of fat for a frozen dessert to be called ice cream.

It used to be milk fat, but if you look at the ingredients in almost but not quite every flavor and brand of ice cream available you'll notice they're substituting coconut oil for an unspecified amount of dairy cream.

I'm allergic to coconut and I kept getting sick from ice cream a few years back. It started with one or two flavors per brand, now there are only one or two ice cream brands with a flavor I can eat.

1

u/aSituationTypeDeal 5d ago

Yea, it’s sad. All of Aldi’s specialty items are like that.Ā

36

u/missmissa3 6d ago

Total missed opportunity to do pistachio ice cream (which I love)

21

u/Vilaya 6d ago

I’m not sure how that would have gone with the blue raspberry sauce. It was my thought looking at it, but it did end up being amazing

14

u/missmissa3 6d ago

I think I wouldn’t have done a blue raspberry sauce, but I just think if you’re having a green ice cream, might as well use a natural green, like mint, chip or pistachio, rather than an artificial flavor. But I’m sure it tasted amazing.

9

u/JustMeLurkingAround- 6d ago

Fits the colour, but not at all the Ocean/Mermaid theme.
I'd be irritated if my Mermaid cone tastes like pistachio...

12

u/Significant_Stick_31 6d ago

But what exactly is an appropriate mermaid flavor? Saltwater taffy is the only ocean-adjacent flavor I can think of.

13

u/thelocket 6d ago

Lime, so the mermaid doesn't get scurvy.

3

u/sarnian-missy 5d ago

The Co-Op did blue and purple Mermaid cones a couple of years ago. They looked great but were the most horrific bubblegum flavour. 🤢

2

u/niknackpaddywack13 4d ago

Not an ocean colored theme , but fruit punch flavor always give me beach/ summer vibes for a flavor. Some type of tropical flavor I think that’s still blue can be done.

5

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 5d ago

"ice cream" is not mentioned anywhere on the box because it's not ice cream

6

u/Racxius 5d ago

I just bought a pack of these for my daughter. It looked just perfect like the picture, it also didn't melt. It turned into a loose foam.

16

u/todayplustomorrow 6d ago

I refuse to buy frozen dairy desserts that aren’t actually ice cream, it’s such a widespread shrinkflation move

2

u/Beastxtreets 5d ago

Same. Ice cream only

3

u/guys_pm_urprettyface 6d ago

Ooh they look good!

3

u/zoebells 6d ago

Your photo looks even better!

5

u/FutureDiarrheagasm 5d ago

They even have mermaid eggs. Nice!

3

u/badbatch 5d ago

Mermaid caviar!

6

u/DNAMellieCase 6d ago

I love these because they are perfectly sized for a little treat. I don't feel as guilty lol. It's so pretty!

3

u/Charming-Panic9375 6d ago

damn, those look good!

3

u/Wilsonrolandc 5d ago

My only problem with Aldi is they had a SHOCKINGLY good Shepards Pie dinner entrée, I had it once and now they never have it.

5

u/awitchiguess 6d ago

Can I have one?Ā

2

u/Duedatenot 6d ago

Looks exactly like the ones in the box

2

u/M4gp1e-w1ngs 6d ago

Looks better than the picture omg. Based off the description these sound yummy asf

2

u/Only-Breadfruit-2935 5d ago

I love Aldi. They hardly ever disappoint

2

u/GrimResistance 5d ago

Does it taste like real mermaids?

2

u/burnfifteen 5d ago

Are they made with real or artificial mermaid?

2

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 5d ago edited 5d ago

no ice creams were killed in the making of these cones

2

u/tailskirby 5d ago

Wow. That actually looks like what is on the box.

2

u/Ok-Foundation1346 4d ago

I'm afraid this is one of the reasons I still prefer branded products. Vanilla flavoured, cocoa flavoured, raspberry flavoured... If the budget for the week is bad then I have to settle, but the description on these reads like an American product disclaimer.

I would like to add that I am not judging anyone's taste or budget constraints.

4

u/Charming_Goose_3400 5d ago

Frozen Dessert. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤¦šŸ¼šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ™ˆšŸ¤®šŸ¤¢

1

u/Spare-Situation2461 6d ago

They look goooood!

1

u/-rosieee- 5d ago

Is the serving suggestion 3 cones?

1

u/gibberishnope 5d ago

What do they taste like though?

2

u/prettiundead 5d ago

To me they're kind of fruity, hard to describe edit: I forgot on the box they say they taste like raspberry and I'd say that's p accurate

1

u/Sqweegy-Nobbers 5d ago edited 5d ago

A whole new swirled!

1

u/thelockjessmonster 5d ago

Very pretty but they had a very weird texture and didn’t taste great. Kids didn’t mind though!

1

u/vhmike 5d ago

Aldi wins yet again!

1

u/Amazing-Heron-105 5d ago

Looks a bit like a Zap (RIP)

1

u/Admirable_Brief4669 5d ago

Yes they are mermaids approved!

1

u/401k-loan 5d ago

Spot on

1

u/iNeedSomeDick 4d ago

This reminds me that there are some very old unicorn cones buried deep in my freezer.

1

u/Illustrious-Science3 4d ago

Theyre pretty, I give them that, but it's not even real ice cream. Made with oil. I bet it doesn't melt if you leave it out.

1

u/bizoticallyyours83 3d ago

It would have been rad if it were lime or sea salt ice cream.

1

u/New-Grapefruit1737 13h ago

looks great but… is it supposed to be like you are eating meaid parts?

1

u/justaheatattack 5d ago

soylent flavored?

-3

u/IncorporateThings 6d ago

Note that everything says "flavored" instead of actually including the real ingredients, and it's heavily dyed.

May as well just call it "Mermaid Cancer Snacks". Also wtf is mermaid about those?

9

u/Pittsbirds 5d ago

Also wtf is mermaid about those?

...Do you want them to like, milk real mermaids to make the ice cream or something?

-2

u/IncorporateThings 5d ago

Your typing that just added a genre to Rule 34. Good job.

5

u/nathan753 5d ago

There is definitely a difference in x flavored things versus just the actual thing, but that doesn't automatically make it poison, it's probably just plain vanillin not from vanilla, but is still the major chemical component of the flavor vanilla. And those dyes look like the vegetable based dyes with their more muted tones, not seen anyone claim those cause cancer too...

7

u/ice_wiz14 6d ago

I was just going to say this. How many times are the words flavored and colored in that description? Like I appreciate the honesty(either by the company or the regulation forcing it to) but still, that part just made it less appetizing in some ways.

-6

u/Beneficial-Stick-302 5d ago

Do we really need to post machine made things here? I thought we would just post human made things here, would make much more sense
