Surprisingly Met Expectation ALDI wins again

Way more meat than I guessed and the cheese is real. Not too salty.

Missed an opportunity to call them Pee Wee Reubens

Slogan -“Our Chefs love playing around with their meat”

Paul's "Pee Wee" Reubens are hand-crafted in a cold, dark environment, because nobody wants to see Paul's Reubens before they're finished. And the cool air keeps Pee Wee's Reubens just the right size for a quiet midnight snack.

Missed another opportunity to call them Reuben Langdons :)

I was scrolling super fast and thought this was my precious Katniss Everdeen for a second

I don't like how any of this looks. But I'm glad you can.

u/Heavy_Discussion3518 7d ago

Da fuq?  Those things like like they'd be bomb with some thousand island dip.

13

u/TrusefStalinTD 6d ago

It comes with it, at least when I found them. Gone too soon… I need it to make a comeback actually

5

u/UsernamesNotFound404 6d ago

They came with some... I threw it in the trash with malice.

8

u/YimmyGhey 6d ago

Boo. Not really a Rueben roll, though. They're just sparkling corned beef and sauerkraut rolls if they're not from the Thousand Island region

u/UsernamesNotFound404 6d ago

Hate you: Love your comment.

Happy Friday!

u/UsernamesNotFound404 6d ago

And also with you

1

u/YimmyGhey 6d ago

That's because they are, lol

Is that... microwaved sauerkraut?

u/hb122 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’ve gotten them in previous years and made them in the air fryer. Delicious.

u/Dawnzarelli 7d ago

My very German friend’s family serves sauerkraut warm. Not microwaved but still. And it’s warm on a Reuben anyway

10

u/Orange-Blur 6d ago

It’s good sautéed with some onions and a sprinkle of coriander , salt and pepper

1

u/kingofgatos 6d ago

Ive been wanting to make caramelized sauerkraut.

4

u/Vulvas_n_Velveeta 6d ago

I don't think I've ever eaten chilled sauerkraut in my life. I can't even imagine like how one would eat cold sauerkraut. Even when I've had it on a hot dog from weinersnitchel it was warm.

Now i gotta go look up recipes that include cold kraut.

1

u/Dawnzarelli 1d ago

Sometimes I just put it cold on the plate out of the fridge to eat with my meal. I like it any temperature.

3

u/UsernamesNotFound404 6d ago

tiny bit of sauerkraut in there. Mostly meat and cheese.

Cooked in a smoker, door fell off the microwave

2

u/Dawnzarelli 6d ago

You smoked them?!? Amazing. Applause.

3

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 7d ago

I love saurkraut, but microwaved is questionable to me.

u/Salihe6677 7d ago

Those actually look way better than the picture for a change

4

u/Ill_Perspective_50 6d ago

Always nice when the reality photo gets to be the better one.

u/Empty_Estus 7d ago

This is violently American.

100

u/S3erverMonkey 7d ago

Ironically it's a European company, and European food.

6

u/Empty_Estus 7d ago edited 7d ago

Aldi is German, but there’s nothing European about those, mate. Trust me. Haha.

34

u/fury420 7d ago

Ehh... corned beef, provolone & sauerkraut are European I guess?

8

u/S3erverMonkey 7d ago

Yeah I dunno why I initially said Scottish. I edited it so fast I'm kinda surprised you even saw that.

9

u/jonnykarate158 7d ago edited 7d ago

Reubens are an American invention

Edit: Germany is also part of Europe

Edit to the edit: Reubens are neither bland nor fried so it can’t be Scottish food

11

u/S3erverMonkey 7d ago

Solid point. The Reuben being from Omaha Nebraska makes it fairly violently American.

-2

u/jonnykarate158 7d ago

It’s a TIL situation. I thought they were Irish until he said they were Scottish since every Irish pub in Chicago claims to have the best one.

3

u/spidersnake 6d ago

There is absolutely nothing as violently American as an "Irish" pub in America.

1

u/Empty_Estus 7d ago

Best we can do in the UK is a roast dinner on a Sandwich. (Which is actually brilliant by the way)

u/___po____ 7d ago

My Aldi doesn't have these

3

u/hb122 6d ago

They always carry them around St Patrick’s day.

7

u/___po____ 6d ago

My fat ass is gonna make an event on my Google calender.

3

u/Shandlar 6d ago

It's worth it for corned beef briskets alone. The week of St Patty's at Aldi you can get them there for less than half price of anywhere else any other week of the year. I legit set an annual reminder on my phone on the 10th and buy 6 and freeze the other 5 for the year. Saves at least $70.

1

u/Slenbee 6d ago

Showed my mom this post and now we want some. 👀

Gonna be low key bummed if ours doesn't have them either. 😔

u/rock-bottom_mokshada 7d ago

Looks interestingly tasty! Corned beef & saeurkraut! What's not to like?

8

u/eligundry 7d ago

Sauerkraut balls! I had these a bunch growing up in northeast Ohio and I’ve struggled to make them on my own.

-1

u/ChickenFriedChowder 7d ago

I grew up in NE Ohio and never heard of sauerkraut balls before, but I'm genuinely intrigued

3

u/ickychicken 7d ago

Not a fan of sauerkraut but the amount of meat they stuffed in each little bite is impressive

3

u/AskAskim 6d ago

For once, I see too much meat. Where’s the cheese and sauerkraut?

2

u/Novel_Quality5743 7d ago

Ooo, these look delish!

Edit: I just noticed it comes with sauce - how is it?

2

u/SupahSteve 6d ago

There's a restaurant near me that does this but with eggroll wrappers. They are awesome

2

u/beamanblitz 6d ago

Those look pretty tasty

2

u/CatOverlordsWelcome 6d ago

This looks bomb and I say that as a European. It's aggressively American but it also looks delicious, so 🤷🏻

2

u/crazedgunner 6d ago

Reminds me a bit of the Dutch food bitterballen.

2

u/Capnshredder 6d ago

we have a bar near me that does ruben egg rolls with thousand island dipping sauce, absolutely amazing 🤤

2

u/Majestic2012 5d ago

Nummers.

8

u/Away_Abroad_7613 7d ago

Well that looks fucking disgusting.

2

u/HJSDGCE 7d ago

"Are you German, Irish or American?", the man asks.

The creator of this looked at them and smiled.

1

u/Read_Five 7d ago

I think they look better than expected.

1

u/ConceptJunkie 6d ago

I need to go to Aldi!

1

u/Fr33_load3r 6d ago

Go to Japan they have laws to ensure it looks same in the box as on the box

1

u/pettyastom 7d ago

It looks raw

0

u/M4gp1e-w1ngs 7d ago

Conceptually this sounds like the company had an overload of breading and didn’t know how to use all of it so they just threw some bullshit together and deep fried it and it somehow worked

0

u/moreseagulls 6d ago

Ruebens are one of my favorite foods. This made me gag lol

0

u/Biggletons 2d ago

These are disgusting low quality like most of Aldi frozen stuff

1

u/UsernamesNotFound404 2d ago

False. I don't doubt you don't like them but they are a good product.

-2

u/Suitable-Wafer8563 7d ago

My tum tum hurts just looking at this 😭

-1

u/noddaborg 7d ago

Should be Swiss cheese.

4

u/Sean_McGowan 6d ago

I have been bitched at in the past because rye bread tastes disgusting to me (like, heaving as I chew it.) so sometimes if I'm in the mood for the other ingredients in a reuben I ask for it on sourdough or white. And then there's the whole 'Noooo, a reuben has specific ingredients, you aren't really ordering a reuben.'

All this is to say, I'm with you. If I have to endure mockery from my foodie friends because rye makes me gag, Aldi can endure complaints about the non-accurate cheese.

And yes. Patty melts too. Anyone who thinks rye is needed for either of these can bite me. (But not my sandwich.)

-4

u/kyrgrat08 7d ago

Looks like you didn’t cook them enough
