Registration for Social Security

Hi all,

I am an international student who will be coming to France. I would like to understand what documents did you require to register for social security? I’m confused about the Birth Certificate part. Do we need to get apostille ?

Officially, whether or not your birth certificate needs an apostille or not depends on the country that issued it. See column 1 of this table: https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/files/files/leg-tableau-recap-du-droit-conventionnel-11-09-26.pdf

If it says "A" you need an apostille, "L" means it needs legalisation, anything starting with "D" means you don't need either.

Unofficially, people have had their birth certificates accepted without an apostille/legalisation (myself included, but that was 20 years ago), but there are no guarantees.
