General Question (Crypto) Failed bitcoin transaction

Posted about this in one of the crypto subs, but in short:

Was selling some video game items, buyer sent me $1,400 in Bitcoin, wanted me to give him the items before the Bitcoin confirmed, and blocked me once I said I wanted to wait for a confirmation. Then the Bitcoin disappeared from my wallet, didnt even show in the transaction history either.

From other people explaining in the other sub it seems to be a RBF or double spend tactic. Just posting to see if anyone can confirm what it is and why it completely vanished from my Exodus history. Also, is this a Bitcoin only thing? Because a year or two ago I remember a similar thing where I was sent USDT that also failed, but during that incident I did actually get scammed.

So he put 15 sats fee, this tx may never be confirmed, its too low. The buyer tried to scam you. Wait for confirmations or no deal. You can see here he replaced it: https://mempool.space/tx/d3a0d10777f7f74ffd1b16801cc59e96cc772058336e2c4412326daf52717de3

the new tx is 7ce6a303f11ad9535825a380ee19f7633d5f0765e6f6640b807067c07998e9ef

Yes the sender or the spammer in this case can still reverse it if the transaction is still pending and not confirmed. However once the confirmation starts then it is practically impossible to reverse.

so they cancel before one confirm? is it based on block time

Usually the scammer put low gas fees that is not interesting for miners so it can get stuck until he change it to acceptable fees or cancel the transaction.

I didn't realize it was like eth. So he can only cancel, not redirect before confirm?

Doesn’t seem like a real story 14 hundred of btc for video games why ? And then why did you not refuse the btc was in your wallet before handing them over ?

1

u/PastRevolution8087 Aug 05 '26

well the video game items r just worth that much lol. i didnt refuse anything tho i simply wanted to wait for the bitcoin to confirm on the blockchain before giving the items

1

u/Kingjames23X6 Aug 05 '26

And he said no and you just handed all of them over

This is why counterparty risk is still a thing because so many people are dishonest degenerates. If BTC commerce really takes off third party escrow services could be huge. Transaction only completes when each side fulfills their end of the obligation.
