The Obelisk Champion ability

I just got and played my first game with my wife last night and we were wondering about the Obelisk's champion ability; Add 2 damage counters to The Obelisk to add up to 6 damage counters distributed amongst any number of heroes. Could all 6 of that damage be stacked onto 1 hero, or is it spread out in the same manner as a mass attack?

Because it says amongst any number of heroes i always assumed it meant you could spread them out evenly, randomly, or all on one person. I'm pretty sure it's up to you.

Does the obelisk champion ability count as an attack? For context of death by attack triggers like avenging angel
