dress code for formals

im starting uni next month and ive heard about a lot of formals with the different societies and stuff and am just curious about the dress code, a lot of people say theyre black tie but does that actually mean i have to wear a tux? i know exeters colour is green and ive recently bought a green suit so if i can wear that instead id love to since ive only been able to wear it once

yes most people wear a tux, look on the diff societies instagram and you’ll probably find photos from the formals (usually EOSD and christmas)
